My Subaru Christening.

Straight from the Hell of the Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains, having endured 15 years of hard mountain driving, it's time I retired as Supra Driver Dorifuta and become known simply as 'Subaru Dorifuta'. If you REALLY think I need Bread & Milk on this jalopy, sorry. It's not like I own a Tercel or anything.

Image
To any Legacy-head, that right there should answer any questions about turbo or AWD. To the general public, it's a little 135hp putt-putt 16-valve SOHC H-4 paired to a RWD-style FWD gearbox. Reminds me of an old Bug. :)

Image
Yeah, that's the real mileage - on the body, anyway. On the JDM motor and tranny? God knows.

Image
Better view. MPFI da yo.

Image
Don't worry. The pipe IS going. Just not yet; other priorities dominate.

Image
Seems like only yesterday, eh? Last year of the Loyale, one year before the Impreza.

Image
Believe it or not, this 200,000+ mile piece of shit gets similar highway mileage to the 1.5l rolling appliance next to it - I averaged 34 miles to the gallon on the way home.

Image
Light Yagami does not approve.

One last beauty shot.

So, here's the specs;

Basic information:
-1993 Subaru Legacy L Wagon
-Non-ABS, FWD
-5-speed manual transmission
-222,500 miles on the clock to date
-Clean title

Modifications:
-'Ractive' Rear fartcan (GOING SOON! >.<)
-Front foglights
-CD player that does not pick up on any FM frequency :/

Non-originals:

-EJ22 engine... JDM sourced
-5-speed FWD gearbox - JDM sourced, or so the owner understads
-Hood
-DF Fender
-DF Door

Planned complete list of modifications (next 5 months):
-Legacy SS alloy wheels... or WRX alloy wheels, with good tires
-Complete '90-92 SS front-end swap
-Complete bodywork and repaint
-Replacement (possibly performance) springs and KYB GR-II struts all around
-A decent radio/speaker combo and be done widdit
-Fix all damaged/broken interior pieces. [small bits here and there, but they're annoying]
-Fix the power door locks and hatch lock.
-(optimism at its finest) EJ22T (zero mods) and SS hood?
-Maybe a brake upgrade. I'll weigh my options.

This is my first actual car. As in, It's titled to me. Not my Dad, me. Insurance is going under my name (Transferred Dad's over until the 15th of June when his policy expires). Registered to me, yes, me. Nana-Maru took a trip to Pennsylvania and never came back. My Supra days will return after my Armed Forces stay, but for now I'm looking for practicality and this car suits the bill. But he does need some work:

-The replacement door was originally non-PW and non-PL, and whoever installed it replaced the window works but left the locks completely in the air, not changing the solenoid or anything. So as of now, the car doesn't have power locks. Not a big deal, except... the hatch is locked, and the owner before the previous owner removed the lock cylinder because his audio equipment (boom boxes... ugh.) kept getting stolen. So now I have to seek a solution to open the f**ker. He also didn't replace the driver's door lock, but left the door in one piece - I went through the bother of driving to the OLD owner's place and picking it up. Shame he trashed the hatch lock. I'll have to go to the dealer to sort that out once registration and inspection are done.

-His struts are SHOT, and I assume fairly that the springs and ball joints will need to go too, considering the suspension clatter and uneasiness. With that will come Legacy SS alloys and BF Goodrich Traction T/A's since the wheels are steelies and mismatched (14" front, 15" rear.) and the tires are U-Buy-It suckass generic shit. Unlike Nana-Maru, however, I'll spare the $400+ in labor and DO THE WORK MYSELF.

-I adjusted the parking brake to my heart's content, but it doesn't hold well. It was COMPLETELY USELESS, but at least now holds on a 5-ish degree grade. That I will also massage over.

-Something's wrong with the driver's side window. It rolls up so high that you can't close the door properly at full height. That and it doesn't press firm against the weatherstripping to seal it from the car-wash hose. I'll look into the Haynes manual and ask around here for that case.

-The center console is okay, but looks broken into two. Some junkyard hunting will remedy that.

I've named him Ryuuichi. Cute little bastard, isn't he? Oh, and those fogs are staying. They light up the road like a motherf**ker. Super-ass bright.

Do have a few questions, though; this car's like a blank canvas, but just how interchangable are other Subaru parts? Would highly consider putting on some ballsier brakes... and I need that hatch lock FIXED! Either way, I hope I enjoy my stay here.

Sweet! I love the fogs, they're MASSIVE.

Parts are pretty interchangeable. My SS runs '05 Legacy brakes, and something tells me the PO wouldn't have put them on if the install weren't relatively effort-free. I'll let the experts chime in on that subject, though.

Take care of that thing. It'll run for a lifetime if you do.

+1 I've seen a 2.0 sohc that looks like our 2.2, but I've never seen a JDM 2.2 sohc.

Good first car. Glad you're removing your grapefruit cannon. And can you clarify by what you mean?
paired to a RWD-style FWD gearbox

On the RWD Style FWD Gearbox...

i think he means it a longitudinal placed motor/ transmission... as opposed to a transverse (east/west) setup...

since normal FWD vehicles ( hondas, toyos, fords, chevs etc.) are transverse.

And ours are setup for Subarus Symetrical AWD...

Even though his is wrong wheel drive.

I think?

And I dunno about the bread and mild comment... I'm lost

That's a joke at the other forum this thread was posted at. Some kids like to "advertise" what cars they own when they don't really own it. (I drive a GT-R olol), and the Tercel part is related to it. 'sall. :3
