Modding
Modded up an EBAY exhaust manifold to work with the BAT (big ass turbo) that feeds the supercharger. This thing is going to spools WAY faster than before, with NO restriction compared the older NA Borla header I was using.
The welds are ugly cause they havent been ground down, and I have welded in a while as well. But they are strong and tight!

Its got low compression JE pistons.
And the last NA block made 400 whp! But it leaked oil out the top from a mystery leak.

OK, update.
This motor has ended up in the Reddevil.
The uppipe pictured above has been HIGHLY modified due to crossmember clearance issues. But it fits now!
And it runs.
But doesnt drive yet, still lots of little stuff to do.

Had it running SWEET.
Then I suspect a wierd issue with timing belt idlers/cam gears happened and the crank gear jumped a few teeth and all my valves seem to be bent.
Uh yeah, not good.
Will update when I open it back up.

found that what had been a weird timing belt tracking issue was more than that. The shoulder the left upper timing belt idler tightened against was raised during disassembly and I had not filed it down. So the belt slowly ate itself against the crank gear and finally a long thread of timing gear got caught between the timing belt and crank gear and @ 14 psi, 5000 rpm, went KABOOM.
Motor is out, getting new headgaskets tommorrow, should be running with the heads from the last motor by Sunday.

Runs again!
Swapped heads yesterday, even had it in and bolted up. Then I wondered why the clutch pedal was so loose.
Whoops, why thats the pressure plate sitting on the ground! :-[
So I pulled it out and quit for the day.
Got it back in this morning and running. Was making some AWFUL rod knocking noises, then squeaks.
Then I filled the radiator and it was as smooth as butter. Might still have leaky turbo problems, but I can deal....

how much power do you think you would make without the turbo and supercharger. i have an N/A and was thinking of going turbo but i think i may just keep it N/A and put like a 2.5 or wrx engine. would like to make 170 to 200 hp. oh yea its front wheel drive

Yeah baby!
Popped the wall @ about 8:30 tonight. First thought I just cracked a ringland as usual. Then outside PIR I pulled over and realized it was STEAM coming out EVERYWHERE, not burning oil...
Thought I had finally popped a headgasket for the first time in my career, so I attempted to drive home. Nope. Made it a few miles and then the TEMP started to climb. So I made it to a bar I helped build the other day and pulled in there. A beer later, I took water out to the wagon and filled it back up, thinking I would be able to limp it home.
NO. I turned the motor over and water squirted about 2 feet out of the radiator! I realized at that point I had suffered a MASSIVE head gasket failure, or split cylinder, that water was just filling a cylinder and being pumped out when I turned the motor over!
So I called my favorite $80 per tow @ night guy and towed it back to the shop. two hours later I see what you see, one Hell of a split cylinder.
My suppositions on what happened?
Big boost, with issues. This motor NEVER felt right up top. It would get up and go, then fall flat. But EVERYTHING minus the header (which is better flowing now), and the bottom end, are the same as the POS crazy motor I ran 40whp with... So who flipping knows.
Next motor? Either a stroked 2.0, or an STI block.

My buddy is like, "no way, there's no way you can feed a supercharger already compressed air..." I told him that I KNOW A GUY who is doing it, quite successfully AND I know he's real, cause I bought a transmission off him.. haha
He STILL isn't convinced, hey Vincent, could you put up a vid thread or link me to the build thread... I can't find it via search: "garage build" or what it was that you told me, I forgot.. :3
Anywho, DAMN... that's some damage! But definitely cool you're able to build things so quickly and well...
Also, that's a HUGE ass pully... haha
Okay, I'm done. ^^

It's been done by OEMs as well. Volkswagen is selling a 1.4, IIRC, that's super and turbocharged. My god, the thought of them engineering that makes me shudder, but unlike many scary monsters, exist it does.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
