I figured this was the 'best fit' forum to ask this in... how do I steer my parts car onto the trailer if I remove the crossmember and the steering rack?
It's really about all I have left to pull out of the chassis and then it's ready to get paperwork and head to the recycler. I definately want the steering rack as mine leaks and this one is good. And the x-member is a good way to recover a little more of the cost of the car. But then how do I get it in the trailer, will the wheels follow straight or will it be like shoving a shopping cart with a bad wheel?
I know someone before me has crossed this bridge and it may be a silly question... but... thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

You're not having a junk yard pick it up? If not, I'd pull it backwards, the caster is more likely to keep them straight. Another way is to cut a 2x4 the right width, drill a hole at each end, and tie the knuckles to the 2x4 and that should keep them aligned to each other. You'll have no Ackerman, but I don't think you care.

Put a 4x4 or something between the frame rails and use a jack to pickup the front end.
Other thought is to put furniture dollies under the front wheels.

Wait, your removing the crossmember?
I think we are forgetting a major piece of the puzzle. What will the control arms be connected to?
I think you should be the most concerned with how the car will be able to support itself with only a small, liquid filled, bushing to support the whole weight of the front of the car.
Sort that problem out, and I'd do what Josh just said, use furniture dollies under the front wheels and have friends kick them to keep them straight as you drag the car backwards up the trailer.

They'll stay to get on a trailer - worked for my parts car. The rear wheels won't though if not allowed to roll. Can't remember why, but I had to jam the rear wheels on and could only fit one lug nut on each. Funny to watch as it was dragged onto the flat bed.
