So I won a set of wheels...

Post by Imprezive »

Long story short, I won the "Letter of the Month" for the August issue of the magazine Sport Compact Car.

I get a free set of TSW Croft wheels. I'm ecstatic, but the only set that might com close to fitting my car are 17x8 with a 35mm offset...

35 offset with a 7 inch wide wheel? The front "might" fit but I doubt even longer lugs and a spacer will get the rears to work.

I used to get SCC. It was the only half decent car mag. Stupid Super Street, Turbo, etc.

What was your letter? You weren't kissing Dave Coleman's butthole, were you?

I can safely assume you have never read Grassroots Motorsports if you consider SCC half decent

Never heard of it actually. The only car mag I get currently is subiesport and even it's started to become disappointing.

Buy a copy of Grassroots Motorsports. If you don't like it I will pay you back.

Yes it's that good.

I'll have to check out Grassroots.

SCC used to be a lot better than it is now. When I subscribed in 2001 some of the magazines creeped up to almost 300 pages. They had tons of project cars. Since they've gotten almost a whole new staff things have changed a lot.

GRM is awesome.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

I also remember the days of 300 page Sport Compact Car magazines, now they are less than 100 pages with 1/2 of the pages filled with random junk....

GRM has ZERO stereo advertisements and no scantily clad women. The relatively few advertisements are for things you would actually want like performance brake pads, ceramic coating facilities and race harnesses.

They have no bias towards one type of car. You will enjoy an article about a Miata as much as when they build up a Mustang.

It is the last true car enthusiast magazine.

Totally agree. How to do intelligent, original projects on the (somewhat) cheap. Cars people who actually like cars would drive, not posers with generica flavor-of-the-week. Their annual challenge always brings interesting entrants and there's always something new to learn. These guys actually love cars, not trying to come up with an identity they lack or pick up cheap whores who's brainless eyes are attracted to shiny things like fish to lures. How far those women resemble fish in other areas I'll leave to you, dear readers.

GRM is good, and based out of FL. I've met and raced with Per Schroeder on several occasions.

In fact, here's a pic I took at the last Tampa event of him rallyXing his automatic Neon :):

As you all have said, a lot of their projects are done as cheap as possible. As best I remember, he got this car for free.

I'll also throw a vote in for the British magazines, like Car. I like Sports Car Int'l too.

GRM is good, but a little boring, sometimes I'll spot one of the spec miatas that I have built in there. SCC went down hill. but they are climbing up the ladder again. The magazines haven't got much meat to them, but they do have some pretty good technical articles.

But I swear if they try throwing in a J-Body project car I will run them down with my car...
