need some help (tranny issues?)

Post by sohc STi »

hi. I'm new to legacies but not to subaru's.

my buddy called me up yesterday to tell me theres a 91 leggy gt sitting at our friend/mechanic's house that he just wants to get rid of. now I've been looking for a lgt for some time as a daily driver/sleeper so I can put my other love (gt30'd 99 impreza rs) away to finish.

I told him I'd be right over. I get there and this thing looks to be in awsome shape. bunch of new parts, good tires, no serious rust. he was the mechanic for this car for a while until the owner gave up and sold it to him for cheap. to make a really long story not too long he will sell me the car for $600. it needs a couple little things but he said the tranny's shot. it won't even hold the car on a hill.

so what I'm asking is what my options are as far as getting this thing driving. would a wrx 4eat bolt up? how much power IF I can find another 91 gt tranny would it hold? I'm just looking at getting this thing on the road as quickly as possible. I don't think I'd have a problem finding a subaru auto tranny but what are the differences in them?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

02+ WRX 4eat uses VTD center differential and different controls for the brakes/bands. You could potentially rewire the matching TCU into the car but your best bet is another 90-98 4eat.

thanks for the quick reply.

that would work. I was hoping I wouldn't need a 91 specific tranny. level ten would still be able to work there magic anyway right?
