I have a 91 legacy….

Will the headlight harness, connectors, wires, housing, etc. support 100/90watt bulbs for long trips with out a problem?

90/100 watt lights? Yes it should, but I wouldn't go any bigger. You may

I have been having some small problems with my
headlights lately (harness seemed to me to heat up too
much). Actually I just am out to go pick it up from
the shop and when talking to him he said that they
should handle up to 20 amps draw. Regular 55/65 pull
about 6 amps. I will try to ask him when I pick it up
if he thinks it's safe to put higher wattage bulbs in.

No, not without uprating the wiring and relay, they end up melting
the wiring and the plastic plug on the head light.

Before I uprated my stock headlights, I uprated my wiring system on the
headlights. I used 2 relays, one for high and one for low beam. i took the
trigger wire off the ignition column to trigger it. It made a noticeable
difference in the brightness of the headlights. I then uprated to 90/100
bright white bulbs. Boy what a difference in output.
I had previous experience with my Nissan Pathfinder when I melted the plug
(yikes) after I uprated the bulbs. I wouldn't think of uprateing without
doing the wiring.

i have tried 90-100W superwhites in my RS Turbo Liberty and have
actually returned to the 55-60W Xenon gas filled, NOT Halogen type.
I find they are brighter than the 90-100W and are a std wattage.

Yeah they should. I've had 80/100W in mine for 4+ years, and my long trips include WA to PA, PA to WA, WA to PA, and PA to TN.

Hi,
Anybody thinking about upgrading their headlight bulbs should
automatically fit heavy duty relays and wiring to the lights. Not doing this
will eventually cause your standard switching to arc and fail not to mention
the stress on the standard very thin wiring. I added relays to my standard
system and raised light output from 7400 candelas to 7600. This was with
60/55 H4 bulbs, relays with higher wattage bulbs will have more effect
because the potential for voltage drop is greater. Then I removed the
protective perspex covers from the lights. Output jumped to 9400! Even
though the covers were clean and in good condition they make a huge
difference. Replacing the 60/55 bulbs with 100/90's took output to 9800. I
now have 130/100 bulbs in with a pair of IPF740 HIR driving lights and a
pair of Hella Micro DE fog lights. The HIR bulbs in the IPF's are new
technology and are very white and bright. Lighting is now adequate :-)
