so it all started when i lost all foreward gears in my transmission a while back. with 290000 miles on my car i decided that rather than fixing the existing trans i would just find another one from a 93 legacy. well i went to a place in the chicago area called eric japan engine because they had a $380 auto with a claimed 3.90 final drive and low (less than 60k miles) so i buy it, take the time to replace it, drive it around, and find it is not working properly. it of course felt like it was fighting itself and when i put the front wheel drive fuse in it went away, and this icing on this cake is that when you unplug the tcm the car will not move. so my time is money and it took me a long time to pull this transmission furthermore i did not want to get another tranmission from this guy that was a 3.90 but did not work. ( at this point i am willing to take my beating and never go there for parts again) live and learn. so i found a 4.11 rear diff with substantially fewer miles (under 200k) for $90. this is still well below either a subaru reman (around $3000) or a trans shop rebuild (phone quote $900 to $1500 or more) put it in and my car accelerates just a tiny bit faster off the line. with no problems in the driveline.
aside from the obvious loss in fuel economy i may incur and lower top speed, is there anything that anyone can think of that may be bad about this sort of setup down the line.
i now have what i assume is the only automatic ss with 4.11
