sport compact time

Post by SILINC3R »

with the rising gas prices i have seen a lot more tuner cars around. cars that probably should still be kept in the garage but since they get very good gas milage are out on the streets. if you pay attention you will notice what i am seeing. in the past couple weeks i have already seen one 90-91 and three 92-94 legacys. they all piss me off because the people driving them have no idea what they are driving and their cars all seem to be in better condition than mine.

Some of the V8 boys give me crap about how much more I spent to get what they do with only some longtubes, cam, rockers, and exhaust. Then I ask how their mileage is. After that I ask how their F-body does in the winter, and if they'd ever care to auto-X with me sometime.

I bet your only seeing auto tragics though. If your seeing turbos then Ive got to get up to Commerce more often cuase Im literally the only TLeg Ive seen in Atlanta ever. In response to your post, Ive seen quite a few "show" cars out on the streets recently for daily commutes.

I've seen a lot more scooters and mopeds than ever before. But haven't noticed much of a shift in the types of cars on the road.

Unless you count Smart Fortwos, since they're kind of the new Geo Metro and would've served as little more than fancy paper weights in showrooms 2 or 3 years ago.

I've noticed traffic drop, people driving slower, and Smarts all over. Not so much of the macho-man rice driving either.

Until yesterday... Had some idiot in a new Civic Si coupe race me through an onramp and onto the highway. I was behind, but saw him pushing it and, figuring I'd be able to go at it like the ramp was empty, followed in my usual empty-ramp driving manner. The Mazda could have passed him on the ramp with bald tires and I didn't even left foot brake while he was ringing out the engine for all it was worth and it looked like he pulled the hand brake to keep the front in line. Passed going on to the highway up to 110 and out-accelerated him easily, then I backed off to a saner speed, watched the retard pass traffic in the breakdown lane, shoot over 3 lanes to the passing lane, and put on his hazards as if he had won. Yeah, you won alright. Have to say, I've never been impressed by Honda drivers, but I've never been so unimpressed by their cars - the Mazda handles pretty well, but is not fast. And I had been disappointed that the new generation Civic hadn't come out when I bought my 3. I wasn't even really racing the guy - that's how I would've drove were he not there. I just wouldn't have enjoyed it as much. OK, maybe I would've only hit 95 or 100, not 110.

My brother-in-law's new Civic Hybrid isn't bad on the other hand. I drove it and actually found it perversely fun driving for efficiency. They also should put stop/start in every car. A new version of the system Mazda is working on with their new DI engines will inject fuel into the combustion chamber and ignite it to start the car back up in traffic, rather than relying on a heavier-duty starter.

Ummm..... if he's pulling the handbrake to keep the car in line, then he's basically using his horsepower to burn up his tires much more than push the car forward. Sucky-driver-who-thinks-his-money-makes-him-awesome-syndrome.

I know driving slower would help gas mileage........but I just CAN'T do it. Maybe I need one of those self help classes.
