It does look like a minivan. With worse space efficiency.

My "brother in law" was so close to working at Tesla that he even had a say in some of the design specs.
Lets just say this - the reliability may not be what it should since they refuse to learn from the lessons that regular auto makers already have especially when it comes to metallurgy..
I thought they were using a modified Elise chassis. I'd be more concerned about the lithium ions they're using catching fire. I'm waiting impatiently for the Aptera. Hope they offer it in something other than white if it ever gets to MA.

How much will this weigh? Outbacks go up to around 3600lbs, so assuming this guy has the same weight penalty as the Forester vs. the Impreza, it may come out to 3800lbs give or take a few, which will give it a nice dynamic advantage over the boat anchors that the Toyota, Nissan, and Honda minivans have become (all pushing 4600).

being that i currently work at a mazda/subaru dealership i can say two things.
1. mazda sells a lot of 5s.
2. lesbians dont like the tribeca and are getting too big for the forester.
i think subaru would sell a decent amount of these, but i agree they are ugly.
93 ss W/ too many miles
95 legacy 212000 sold
05 LGT 107500
90 & 94 toyota pickup 271000 each sold
Hey, someone else that works for a Mazda-Subaru combo dealership!
Mazda does sell a lot of 5s. More than I thought they would. I really didn't think it had a place in the market, but it seems to have found one. Somehow fun-to-drive as well.
I don't think the lesbians have moved away from the Forester... I think the Forester has moved away from the lesbians.

I agree - the Forester is no longer a small butch wagon (reflecting the owners, perhaps), but is a RAV4/CRV generic-looking small SUV. Another loyal market they've abandoned.

When an 09 Forester was sitting in the Subaru shop awaiting PDI, I looked at the tech with a puzzled face. He said "What's wrong?" I said, "I didn't know we sold Toyotas here." In on the joke, he said "But this is a Subaru." I said "No shit? Coulda sworn it was a Highlander!"
And in case you all weren't aware, the 09 Forester XT is no longer offered in a manual.

And I thought I was the only one who thinks that they bear a striking resemblance. I'm afraid Toyata is going to suck all of the 'Subaru' out of Subaru.
Not long til, 'Its what makes a Subaru, a Toyota.'

Didn't GM sell off most of their shares of Subaru well before the '08s? I think it has more to do with Subaru succumbing to "make cars as broadly appealing [boring] as possible to reach the biggest market share possible" syndrome that afflicts virtually all new cars. Remember when Toyota had a great "fun car" lineup? At one point they had the Celica, Corolla, Cressida, MR-2, and Supra all with RWD and great handling. They've completely abandoned that for their geriatric lineup of today (they even dropped the 180hp 1.8L in the Corolla for a more sedate 2.4L that can deliver good thrust without feeling racy), and they're cars are obscenely boring, yet they're now the #1 American automaker (are they still in NASCAR?).
Subaru is headed down the same path..... they're looking to increase market share. And that means abandoning the niche market they've made their name on for the past 30 years

Problem is there's little room for them there. If they survive in it, it will eventually be Toyota's Pontiac division for their own Chevrolet. Pointless. Maybe Subaru will become the name for an AWD option package on their cars.
When a relative gets on shit like heroin, crack, or meth, they're essentially dead, no longer the person you knew. To pretend otherwise is to only drag yourself down. If they are to recover, only they can chose to do it, so there's little point in dealing with them unless you're a masochist or so delusional as to think you can 'fix' them. Subaru is dead.
Irony is, they'd be selling more cars now if they sold the kind of cars they used to sell - small, fuel efficient, tough as nails, decent handling, cheap, and engineered to stay that way. Hell, it wouldn't be the first time market trends caught up to what they had been making all along - the original Outback was no departure from what they had built all along, it's just that the market started wanting vehicles like that and they were there to capitalize on it. Today?
The hideous Impreza is smallish, but too heavy. Ditching AWD would knock that weight down some and they'd still have the boxer and bullet-proof chassis to set them apart and above everyone else. My Mazda3 is regularly considered, even at the end of its sales life, to be among the best in its class. Compared to my old Legacy it's a complete piece of shit. Subaru used to make the best cars in the world (unless you value fluff over substance). And my cousin used to be a pretty great guy before he got into heavy drugs.
