EJ22T basic stock specs

Post by thefultonhow »

Whew, it's been a while since I've come around. my brother still has his 1992 Winestone L+ AWD 5MT sedan (50,000 original miles!), but I sold my 90 White L+ AWD 5MT wagon and am now driving a 1992 Infiniti G20 5MT with around 180k mi. I swapped the motor for a JDM SR20DE when the old one died, but I'm planning on going SR20VE (uses a system similar to VTEC or AWCS to get about 195 chp out of an NA 2.0 liter) in the near future.

I'm now a regular over at G20.net, and one of the guys there wants to get 200 whp out of a stock 9.5:1 SR20DE with about 6 psi on a T28. The catch is, he wants to do it without an intercooler. Since the Legacy Turbo was one of the few cars I know of that ran unintercooled stock, I was wondering what kind of specs the engine has. What was the stock compression ratio, and what was the stock boost level? I'm skeptical that this guy can manage to reach anywhere near 200whp without upping the boost and getting detonation, but need a reference point on another car before I can say for sure.

Thanks!

P.S. BTW, you guys would be jealous -- a guy by the name of Calum has figured out a way to hack the stock SR20 ECU (both OBDI and OBDII versions, for the Sentra/200SX, NX2000, and G20) with a daughterboard, and the result is a completely real-time-tunable ECU that is also plug and play. Even better, it's only $300! He's even coming out with a new version soon that will have launch control and high-voltage external RPM triggers.

stock boost was 8.7PSI and produced 160 crank horsepower (120-125WHP) AFAIK.

Any idea about the CR?

Also, 120-125whp? I forgot how much drivetrain loss there was on AWD! My G20 has 140chp and others that have dynoed stock motors have generally had at least 125whp, so I'd assume I have around that. I guess you guys have more torque though... but then I am 100-150 lbs lighter... Hmmmm...

BTW, for reference, most versions of the FWD SR20DET make ~200whp on 7psi from a T25 and 8.5:1 CR. In its stock form in Japan, some of them came with TMICs and some with FMICs, but they were all intercooled. Also, I've never seen any talk of open vs. closed deck on these motors, but a number of people have made 400-500whp on built motors and a couple even up to 650whp (can you imagine that on FWD? ) Stock DE internals can do up to ~300whp, and stock DET internals can do up to ~400whp.

That is the Stupiest idea not to run any Turbo cooling System, He will lose power using a turbo because after about 5minutes of driving it may as well be recirculated exhaust gas. The stock legacy only made a modest 165HP, And if hes doing an Aftermarket build, geese.

Well the SR20 is durable and responds well to boost -- the question is mostly, will he be able to make any where near 200whp unintercooled? My hunch is no, but I need to know a little more about other unintercooled factory turbos before I can say anything with authority.

Also, has anyone seen a power increase just by adding an intercooler to their Leg Turbo, and not changing anything else (turbo, boost levels, etc.)?
