Reading vin numbers

Post by joshm »

Is there a guide to this somewhere ? I want to find out some info on my car. I searched the site and could only find info regarding paint codes. Id like to be able to read the VIN, Transmission, Engine and option codes. thanks

So that's where it went. That used to be a Wikipedia article, but has been moved there apparently.

As is expected because it's Wikipedia, it's horrifically inaccurate. Take virtually EVERYTHING in that article with a grain of salt.

Not to toot my own horn, but if there's one section that's mostly correct, it's the 5th character (body style) section. I compiled that section out of every piece of literature I could get my hands on at work.
