help 91 L fwd automatic wont shift out of first gear

Post by SiCkSTi04 »

today it seems that my wagon is telling me she has a problem. from P to D is ok but the power isnt there, the car stays at 2000 rpms and seems to take awhile to get up to speed. also the tranny doesnt switch gears, it almost seeems like it stuck or something. i did a test and drove the car up to 55 mph and then released the gas completely. the rpm's will drop to idle speed while not on the gas then for some reason jump 3 times to 3-4 rpms, almost like late shifts.

i searched and found a thread talking about adjusting the brake band.
any thoughts? :?

Have you checked the trans fluid level?

Was the trans heated up, engine still running, and did you cylce slowly through all the gears before checking the fluid?

Beyond the fluid, you could check the brake band, but I kind of doubt that would be the problem.
