alright have steel brake lines= car stops well-maybe bigger rotors
will upgrade to 17'' soon=running 14''
2.2 liter N/A= want turbo (which kind?)
FWD- have to live with that
stock radiator= buying a koyo next year
oil cooler= buying one next year
new struts=KYBs
getting sway bars= front and rear with endlinks (whiteline)
getting springs= next year (whiteline)
have lower front brace
strut bars= have rear and front
top mounts= new subaru rears
throttle body spacer[/b]=have
underdrive and alternator pulleys= getting next year
A/C compressor taken off
CIA (cold air intake)=done
engine has 234000 miles. no work done to it what so ever
i think this is all i can think of
dont know anything about engine management except that i would need turbo ecu

at least 200 hp. at most 250 no more that 300. if i get to 300 i will have to go AWD, which i may do in the future. keeps the car lighter though. want to go turbo of course, don't think i will be taking it on dirt roads anymore. maybe get into auto-x or something.

Not meant to be funny at all. There's nothing wrong with the FWD version as a stock car. Sure it's fine, in my opinion, to boost its power a bit, improve the handling a bit, but after a short while you reach the limit of the drive-train platform. If you just want to go fast in a straight line, well, okay; If you're attached to the car then, no worries, go for it and NEVER think about the money you've put into it. If you're seriously thinking about making it AWD then I personally would start with a factory AWD car. It will save you a lot of time, money, and headache. Perhaps you are into "doing it all" and that's cool, I'm just saying what I would do.SILINC3R wrote:done the smoke show already.

My last build was N/A FWD running about 210 ft/lb at the wheels with a very mild build and swap. You have to cover the basics. Air in and air out. So you will want to look at headers and a exhaust upgrade this will compliment the intake work youve done allready. You can up the fuel a bit (plugs wires injectors coil and pump) and use a FPR for the tune. This will be handy anyway as you want to go turbo. Suspension and tires are a must for any application. And Im not just talking springs and new OE struts. Ask Jamal, he can scramble your brain with the complexities and variations of suspension upgrading. The thing I hear most consistently from the veterans on this board is "plan ahead and know what your ultimate goal will be". Map it out, pic your parts, read a lot and try to leave nothing to chance. Dont do what I did though. After planning my parts list and looking at the total investment I just about cried when I realized that my project would take years not months. But so far no issues!

will i realized that this is no over night story. it has been three years and i am where i am now. once i join the coast guard next year i will probably buy another subaru and take full advantage of being able to work on the legacy.right now i only really get to work during the summer so all the spending that i would do over a year i have to try and fit into a summer. i will have put about $1500 just this summer if everything goes according to plan

Take whatever you think its going to cost, then double it. That will get you in the ballpark. Its all the little things that add up in a hurry that you never think of initially.
I've easily spent 1-2k on random stuff like hoses, fittings, random tools I needed, and just all the odds & ends needed to make everything work.

ok so i have been reading and there is still a lot to learn. the plan like i have said is to make at least 200 no more than 250 HP. i want to put a turbo on and a front mount intercooler. also go 3'' turbo back exhaust. i guess from the headers all the way to the muffler. the question i am asking know is can i make the 200-250 HP reliably on a 250,000 mile engine-EJ22-N/A FWD?
oh yea almost forgot, i don't want more than 8-10 pounds of boost.
forgot also i want to stay with the EJ22 if i can because it is 2.2L

I think most people have already posted what I would say.
But if you want to keep going on the build- I would read up on what Doug has done:
Go to Nasioc and read up on his posts there and here
his screen name here and there is: reddevil

ok thanks. so have maybe decided how hard would it be to get 200 HP without turbo. and would it be better. i think it would be coll to push close to 200 HP before getting a turbo.
i guessing all new engine insides.

I hate to say this.
it would probably be in your best interest to keep the car how it is. In general, saving your money up, then purchase a SS and sell your car. It will be a much better base, and you can find SS's for close to the price of n/a cars.
It would be more reliable and save you a ton of cash.
You could possibly do the free mods (p&p exhaust manifold, tb, intake manifold), the cheap mods (air filter, used cbe, etc), and the carryover mods (crank pulley, flywheel).

No you dont need to upgrade internals to hit 200hp. That would be overkill. Better you plan for that when you prepare for the big turbo build. Our cars can take a lot before you have to think about that kind of work. You will want to go over your gaskets though to make sure everything is tight.
I agree with Nick, you would save yourself some money and headache by looking for a T-Leg and buying it outright. A build up can be rewarding but thats a lot of time and money for a build thats going to be running so close to stock specs. If your goal is to remain N/A on the other hand then tear it down and go for it.
Oh and Nick, I hate you and your BGN

Why not use the 200 car as a daily driver and save up and find a turbo car?
You will end up putting twice as much money into a NA car to get it up to a turbo car's specs.
