I managed to pick up a Impreza wagon off of craigslist. I've always wanted an Impreza and I couldn't pass this one up. I started building it over on rs25.com and thought I'd post the build in case anyone wanted to see it:
What sucks is I added how much money I've spent on this POS and I'm up to $2,800 in parts alone and I haven't started on the engine yet.
It's very true - if you want a modded car you should buy one that's already done/started because it will be cheaper that way in the end. Not that I plan on selling this car, but I'll never get out of it what I've put into it. I do enjoy working on it but wow, I didn't know I spent that much! A lot of little purchases add up!
Cars are lousy investments. Try not to see them that way and you'll be happier. I try to think of it as how much cheaper it is than having a drug, gambling, or whore addiction.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

I agree. However I've had pretty good luck with cars. It is a good addiction as well. My project has been funded entirely off of the profits I've made selling cars. (Sold a 95 eclipse and doubled my money, did the same with an SS I had). I've also gotten really good deals on my parts, it's just hard to believe how fast it all adds up. I do enjoy the satisfaction of doing it yourself, and doing it right.
I wouldn't consider a car an investment at all. Unless you buy a junker or find a steal and know that you can get much more for it, it's just gonna accumulate miles and rust and require costly maintenence and it's just plain silly to think of what you "get out of it" in monetary terms.

I had three SS's (two 91's and a 94) plus the wagon. So four total.
I just sold the white SS last week so I'm back down to 3
I've owned a total of 6 Subarus though.
I've always wanted an RS Impreza ever since the first day the Subaru dealership got one on the lot. There's just something about the front end of that car that just looks awesome. My ideal car would have been a sedan converted to an STI, but I'm starting with the wagon to RS and then to turbo and eventually to STI.

I love the front, too! The RS Impreza is the only car in that family that I would bother to own.
