No I am not selling my SS, but I am going to give it up for a while.

I am moving to Africa in a few weeks and I am going to be there for about 10 months. I fly on Aug 9th and expect to come back next June

My car will be in good hands while I am gone. My friend will babysit and he is very kind to old cars. Luckily he is a detail guy and I made my car juuuust cool enough that he thinks it's worth some attention.

I am doing volunteer work in Kenya with a small organization formed mostly by med students at a local University. We are basically trying to start a local industry using local materials to make ceramic water filters. There are many physical and cultural reasons why this should be more sustainable than most other water filtration methods. The goal is to start it up and then be able to leave it in the hands of the Kenyans, and also for it to spread to other regions. Awesome project! This is the first I've seen of the ceramic filters. How are they cleaned?

As far as I can remember there is no sophisticated cleansing process. Just rinse and be careful where all that rinse water goes I guess. The micro pore does get clogged and over time the flow rate will slow down enough that the pot will need replacing, but they are looking at a life expectancy of about a year or so, and the cost of each one will be about $3

Cool. Sounds better than the Lifestraw as the volume of water through these bowls is undoubtedly higher and they don't have to rely on them being shipped from another manufacturing site. Can they glaze the bowl after it's done and use it as a container or otherwise recycle it?

to be honest I am not sure what plans are developing for the pots after they have quit performing

I am not an expert on pottery, but I don't see why there couldn't be a recycling process where the pots are reduced to powder clay again to be used over again

just a question of what that process requires
