ok so im stuck with a delema. not too long ago my turbo crapped on me. it was shooting coolent and oil out of my bov. so, heres my options.
rebuild the 16g turbo for $300
or buy a 50 trim or 60 trim t3/t4 turbo for $200.
i was at 14psi with the 16g so i only had 5-6 psi more till it was maxed out. and i might want more power later if 5-6 psi more doesn't cut it.
what would you do?

If the t3/t4 spools like is suggested in DV's t3/t4 post I'd go with that as it is a bigger turbo than the 16G with very similar spool.
Just realize that if you buy the Knock-off Chinese Ebay t3/t4e it will start to smoke within 1-3 months (but you can use genuine Garrett bearings & seals to rebuild it).

Depends on what your goals are.
Power or mid range driveability?
Personally, I am sticking with the Td05.
If we get the other SS going, I was thinking of trying EWG and other mods for power.

I see shops advertising HP gains by using a external WG set-up that is plumbed back into the DP & I can't see how the EWG will free up HP set up that way.
Dumping the EWG to the atmosphere should free up some power as you now have less exhaust volume flowing through the exhaust (gas that passes through the turbine) + no exhaust on the gasses dumped by the EWG.
I use a EWG on the OBS-T plumbed back into the DP just because I had 3 Tial 38's in the garage & did not feel like playing with a actuator to get the boost I wanted.
I may re-do the DP to dump to atmosphere - may-be that will gain a couple Hp.

well i was planing on having 300whp with the 16g at 20psi.
i think im slanting on the power side, and lots of it. i might buy my brother crx for a dd and use my ss for straight performance driving.

I'd go with the t3/t4. One that's a little bigger than a 18g and a little smaller than a 20g. And some forged rods if you don't already have them. I have three motors sitting around that threw rods at full boost. Now I run 20w-50 valvoline race oil and eagle forged rods.
