AWIC Radiator Finally DONE!!!

Post by Legacy777 »

After nearly four months of my car sitting, I finally got everything done. This is the setup I originally wanted to have. Flow through the cooler & radiator are much better.

Here's all the pictures
http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/s ... cradiator/

I'm debating if I need to find a black hose clamp. The one on the lower part of the radiator really stands out.

There's something about the front end I'm not sure about. I'm not sure if it's the fact the lower slats are gone now....and the grill has the slats going across it.....and they're out of place together....I don't know. Or if it's the stupid orange blinkers

I'm also not sure if I'm going to put the driving lights back on either....one is burned out anyway.

I'm jeleous of how there is not a spec of rust on that thing. Damn Minnesota and the salt up here. Snow is fun though....

Have you noticed an improvent in the car? You need to get that Link in so you can log some intake temps

The driver's lower fender has a small rust bubble....but it really hasn't grown in the years I've had it.

I've only driven the car a little bit yesterday and drove it to work this morning. I haven't really noticed a difference, but it's hard to say with ambient temps around 95-100 deg F. With cooler ambient temps the AWIC was cool to the touch. I'll have to watch things when it cools down and when I get the link in to see how it reacts. Typically when you increase flow through the system, heat transfer rate increases. However there is a point where the cooling medium isn't staying in the exchangers long enough to do the proper cooling. Like I said, I'll have to keep an eye on things.

I plan to start on the Link soon. I need to get the tap for the IAT sensor and practice on the n/a intake. Plus I need to burn the tank of gas. The gas sat for almost 5 months. It was at half tank. I put a half tank of fresh in, and need to go burn it all off, but a new tank in, burn it off, then change the fuel filter....and will probably change the plugs too....so I know I'm starting fresh with the Link.

SILINC3R,

Only the hood, front bumper, and upper portion of the fenders have been repainted due to swapping to the turbo hood and replacing the front bumper. Everything else is original paint.

Needing a tap for the IAT I'm guessing you are using the other style one they have vs. the bosch? I had to weld a flat area to my piping to use the bosch sensor.

Yeah I'm using the GM "fast acting" IAT sensor.

That was my thought as well. I know that Vikash has mentioned the use of GM parts a few times in his setup.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Regarding the "fast acting" IAT sensor. GM makes an IAT sensor that is not an open wire design. It's meant mainly for non-turbo applications where you're not going to see drastic swings in temperature.

I don't know how the GM sensor compares against the bosch, but Ballenger Motorsports did talk about it I believe

I don't know if you were looking for opinions or not but here's mine...

Your car has always looked really classy and elegant to me. You could take a date to a fine dining establishment or to an awards gala event and you could be proud driving up in your Legacy.

With the lower slats gone it has modified the look somewhat. Second to that is the heat exchanger that is noticeable.

My thoughts on remedying the looks is to paint the heat exchanger flat black and to have the lower slats retrofitted (but those are probably destroyed) or another bumper installed. To me, that would bring it back to where it was before -- totally classy and elegant. (I know you wouldn't have cut the slats off if you didn't have to, so I'm just wondering if the heat exchanger can be relocated a bit higher for it to clear the slats?)

As for getting the AWIC installed the way you want it to perform, a BIG CONGRATS to you for an excellent job done!!! You're a pioneer in modifying our bc's!!!

Maybe a dash of semi-flat krylon? I'm all about sleeper status though...

I have thought about painting it black. Also have thought about trying to put mesh or something in.

I'll have to play with it.

I agree with going stealth.

That's one of the big advantages of an AWIC, in my opinion.

Plus, there were no such things as fast Subarus before the WRX , so you'd fly under the radar even better.

Beautiful, as always.

Don't really know the HP.

You mean bigger radiator for the AWIC setup, or bigger engine radiator?

All the info for this work is in this thread

Not really due to the AC condensor and the vertical radiator support.
