Manual boost contol issues

Post by joshm »

Alright so im running a MBC now (intercooled my car). I was just messing with it a bit on my street, started driving it with the MBC on "0". Boost gauge read 6 lbs boost (manual boost gauge, lost a psi or so from my IC). Alright, so i set the boost gauge to "1" and still, Boost gauge reads 6lbs boost. Anyways, all the way up to "7" the boost gauge read 6 lbs boost, and then i got frustrated and put it away. So, on the MBC its numbered 1-9, but you can spin the dial twice around, so theoretically 1-18. So at 1, is the boost controller telling the wastegate to open at 1 lb boost, or 1 lb boost more then stock ? Also, any clues as to what the issue is ? I need to get a day permit and take the car way into the middle of nowhere to figure this out.

Assuming you have it all wired up properly... I ran into the same problem for my MBC install. Basically I was too timid and just needed to crank up the MBC more before I got more then 6 psi (aka wastegate pressure).

Pics on how you connected everything?

No pics right now. All i did is took both lines off stock boost sylinoid and attach them to my MBC. In other words, line goes from turbo nipple, to MBC, to the wastegate

Haah that didnt help, i think i have it wired properly, its really not rocket science. Im running a hose from turbo nipple, to my MBC, to my wastegate. Which makes perfect sense, because the turbo nipple provides pressure, and the mbc regulates how much gets to the wastegate. So maybe im not opening it up enough ?

Only one way to find out... just get ready to get off boost in case you over do it...

For the record its an ARO boost control. When you loosen off the knob (more boost) theres a slot in the knob and its rated by colors (green, yellow, blue, red, black etc)

Anyone ? Is it properly wired (comes from turbo nipple, to mbc, to wastegate)...this is using the exact hoses from factory but just skipping the stock boost control in the process. Stock boost control still have some electric wires running to it.

To the original one yes, MBC, only two typically because it vents to atmosphere.

or, u can plug ur intake line..

or what alot of people do is, just put the MBC on the turbo side of the solenoid.. which is suppose to be able to allow for more boost.. idk how since i jst use ECU tuning to adjust boost lol i love OBD2
