Hey everyone I'm new (to this forum) so bear with me. I have a frankenstine turbo swapped Outback. Mods list is posted below. I need some help getting the thing tuned to run right. It runs too rich and I know there's a lot of power left in it. With a good tune I could really unleash the potential of the car (and get better gas mileage!) Are there any solutions BESIDES a standalone EMS? I'd like to keep the costs below $750.
Thanks for your help.

To do it right, you need to go stand alone. A piggy back like the PP6 will work to some extent....but ultimately won't give you what you want.
I've looked into everything out there, and decided to go with a Link Plus. Yes that's out of your budget, but you might be able to get away with a piggy back or something that's more just a fuel & timing controller ECU.

^^^ Would an APEXi SAFC work? My friend has one for sale but I'm not sure if it will work with an OBD1 Legacy turbo ECU and harness. I can't exactly call Japan and ask either.
How about the PP6? Seems from the description that it will work fine for my application? Any cons to the PP6?

I would not recommend the APEXi SAFC. It's only a fuel controller.
The PP6 should work. There are some old threads regarding the PP6. Some people have run them without issues. Others have run into issues with them. I ran one for a little bit, and had some issues. I think it was due to the plug & play harness I used.
If you're interested in going with the PP6, I have the one I was testing with that I'd like to sell since I'm going with a full stand alone.

^^^ Yes I am def. interested in the PP6. However I would want to call the Rallitek folks and talk to them about it. I would also appreciate a better description of what it allowed you to do and what "issues" you ran into. Feel free to hit me up on the PM's about it.

There's a massive PP thread in here. I'd suggest searching and reading over it. Douglas Vincent has the most experience tuning with it.
When I have some more time I can pm you what it allows you to do and the issues I had.

I have heard that the impreza ecu does not have the timing issues we have with the safc II. you should be able to add the fuel you need, without a band-aid like a rrfpr.
You will need to watch for knock. It's also helpfull to know someone with a select monitor, so you can datalog off the obd1 connector.

Kickin' it old-school.
You can't really datalog from the select monitor.....maybe the newer ones, but I don't believe the OBD1 ECU's had that capability. The select monitor I have doesn't.
