anyone else had this prob? I dont think its the motor if it goes

I had this problem in my old 91 Legacy Turbo. Sometimes it wouldnt open. Sometimes it would. I figured out my reason was that the rubber seal of the glass would get hung up on the roof when coming down. If you lightly hit the glass on the back part of the glass, it will pop loose and continue to open. BTW, I never had a problem with it not closing.

Yup, I have the same exact problem with my '92 Legacy Turbo. It works one
second and doesn't work the next. Sometimes I just wait a few seconds or
minutes and try it again and she will open/close no problem. I don't think
it's the motor either. It seems like there is some kinda loose connection or
something around the switch area. But it affects all of the buttons (the
open, close and tilt). I've tried on some occasions to use my hand to bang
around the switch area while holding down the button which proved to be
successful most of the time! But towards the end of the summer (the last time
I used it) it didn't seem to work that much and I had to just wait it out.
I'd like to know how to get this fixed also if anyone else can shed some
light on this.

I had this problem a couple years ago, I pulled the cover off of the
controls (going on memory here may not be totally accurate) I think there
are one or two grounding points under those screws, simply clean and
reinstall. BUT, my sunroof leaked so bad I finally just sealed it off and
don't use it - my car was rolled up onto it's side by the P.O. and a new
sunroof was installed and has leaked ever since I bought it :-(
