Hi

Post by TrueBlue »

Hi, I'm new here. My name's Tom, from Buffalo, NY, & I'm picking up a '94 L 5-speed this afternoon as my winter DD. Currently rock a 2002 Chrysler 300M Special for normal driving duties and a 1968 Mustang for fun in the summer.

Just wanted to say "hi", and I'll be perusing your tech forums quite a bit. :)

Yep, AWD. Wouldn't have it any other way on a Subaru.

Looks to be in great shape, some cosmetic problems but we'll address those shortly. I'll have some pictures soon.

Thanks! It's home now, I had to kick the Mustang out of the garage and into the street for her

I guess I should ask, "Where should I start?"

That's all I would do as well - freshen everything up and drive it. Plugs, wires, timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and filters. I like to do this with every car unless I have receipts from the previous owner that show it recently done.

Well, here's a quick cam phone shot - 'suse the quality :)

1994 Legacy, 122K. AWD, 5-speed, EJ22, four-wheel discs. Interior is immaculate, all electrics work, but needs some body work. Came with a metric ton of receipts and a service history at Subaru dealerships from 1,600 miles to now.

Even came with a set of 14" rims, and snows with less than one year on them. Paid $2K for her and she was delivered. I love this little thing already :)

Very nice. I like the rim style, suites the car well.

FWIW, your 14" rims will likely not clear your brakes assuming the brakes are still stock turbo brakes, or did the hood and trunk get swapped for a turbo setup?

Again, very nice.

Absolutely go Bills and Sabres - you can spell 'em right, you must have been here!

Lee, the car had the hood and spoiler swapped from a turbo car and a 2.5RS, respectively.

The cleaner you speak of, is it a liquid cleaner and not a rubbing compound? I have some Meguair's Plast-X and I was going to use that - they are very yellow.

Yeah, I'd like to do some big round fogs too.

i think i have mothers plastic cleaner.

open you hood first, use a good coat in swirl pattern, let dry, remove, repeat. do one to compare how much better they will get. i have to do mine every year.

get the silverstar ultras before you get the fog lights.

Thanks much - I'll have some before/after pics, I'm sure. I have some pretty lengthy "work" threads on other forums for a '95 Taurus SHO and my fastback - I like documenting my work and helping others out with pics. :)

What other bumpers can I throw on here? I like this one but looks like it may not fit.

Welcome, and good find.
Yeah that picture is of a pre-facelift. The frontend changed completely in '92. None of the parts are interchangable. There is, however, a post-facelift turbo bumper that is similar to the one it the picture.

You guys are great. I've been doing some of my searching so I don't have to ask too many stupid questions, but the ones I have are answered very curteously. Not the case on many forums!

I was wondering since the wing wasn't stock. Some more pictures of it would be cool, looks like it might have a nice styling.

Also, I know you're new to the boards and a lot of boards allow a picture down in the signature block - but we don't. It has been issue that has been raised and addressed repeatably since I first came here and the net result is always the same. Just a friendly heads up that the mods will say something if it's not removed.

Thanks. It's been a subject that has gotten a little heated in the past and there's no reason for new and friendly member to get burned on it. FWIW, links are perfectably acceptable if you want to go that route.

Edited, pics are now links. Thanks for the heads up. Are avatars disallowed too?

Already been taking advantage of search, believe me.

:), doh' I meant links to pics within the signature block. We still have a few 56k guys around so we'll try to be considerate (if we remember) and put a disclaimer in the title but pics within the body of the thread itself is perfectly acceptable. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

There are only a few of us that have avatars and those tend to be assigned/given by the mods. Nothing that we as users can control.

Glad to hear you've found the search function. The wealth of information that has been accumulated over the years is mind boggling. I know our search function can take some getting used to get it to return the results you want, have to get old school with the '+', 'and', 'or' type thing but it works fairly well. Of course specific questions are always welcome and we try to be pretty good with the general ones that get beat to death as well but searching first is smiled upon :).

I trust you'll find that the BBS is a pretty friendly place. We're all pretty open and that does get reflected occasionally when one of us is in a bad mood and makes a snippy comment and sometimes it can be hard to discern the sarcasm. Some of our members are pretty damn sarcastic :).

It's a pretty tight community around here, no doubt.
