No start after ECU reset (I'm a dumbass)

Post by DNA_Man »

I apparently knocked the intake off the engine, but since it was
under that plastic cover thingy I didn't notice it until a little
wisp of smoke came out of there while trying to start... yikes. Now
my question is this... should I reset the ECU again, since
I 'touched' the throttle? Why does it make such a point to say don't
touch the throttle?

I wouldn't worry about touching the throttle I deal with these on
almost a daily basis and I don't think that such a reset even exists
except for clearing defaults and trouble codes. Where did the smoke
come from? That may be something to worry about if something shorted
and burned.

No start after ECU reset (I'm a dumbass)

Where the intake goes into the engine, a little smoke came out after
the car died. I thought it might have been electrical like you say,
but there's no electrical stuff in there. My engine has recently been
disassembled to replace the valve cover gaskets, and the mechanic did
not tighten the hose clamp on the intake so I knocked it off when I
changed the filter. Why they took it off I'm not sure, but in the
course of tracking down this problem I noticed quite a few hoses
pulled from their brackets and the plug wires were not in their
holders either. It looks like they went after the valve covers from
the top...

BTW, there is a noticeable power difference with the K&N filter... I
would definately recommend it. I can't believe I've been
RallyCrossing without it! Next month... ICE Rally Cross :)

(That's in Georgetown btw... www.coloradorally.org for more info)

No start after ECU reset (I'm a dumbass)

Your ok then if just came out of the intake. I have a K&N mounted
under my front fender. I took a two channel temp recorder and checked
the under hood vs the under fender temps in moderate traffic in the
summer. There was 70-80 degrees difference and I could tell the change
with the cold air intake. I might check Georgetown out I was up there
and we were racing snowmobiles on the lake several years ago.
