I picked up a 93 legacy T wagon for a new project/winter car. Got it for $650 bucks with 118K on it. The owner said it had transmission problems and when I looked at it found transmission fluid on the floor. So thinking that a poss. rear out put shaft seal leak and the fact that the car started on the first try after sitting for a year. I bought it. Well after getting it up in the air at the shop found the trans pan was dented and leaking out the back. The car will drive just fine in D..will go through 1,2,3,4 when cold, starts to have some issues when up to temp. Reverse is a whole different story. It will move in reverse but you have to rev it to about 3500-4000 for it to star creeping back. ( id did reseal the pan, now holding fluid but still does the same thing)
Question is this something fixable with the trans that is in the car. Or do i swap a auto of some sorts ( only trans i can find for 91-93 era have close to 200k on them). I also have available to manual transmission cable clutch, out of an older impreza, and a manual 92 legacy donor car that I can grab the drive shaft out of etc.
Just trying to get an idea of where I should head with this Leg, Im starting to get down to the crunch time of where the STi goes away for the winter.
Thanks in advance..
Greg

Welcome Greg,
Did you remove the pan and take a look at the valve body at all, or just put a new gasket in? Did you notice any excessive metal on the magnet in the drain pan?
When you filled it up, are you checking the level with the trans fluid at temp, and have cycled through the gears slowly before checking?
