WTB: Left (Driver side) Rear Axle

Post by ca18_sean »

Anyone have either a left (driver side) rear axle, or a pair of rear axles they want to sell? Car is a 93 turbo if it matters...

If not, what car can I swap rear axles with? My driver side boot is torn.

Thanks,
Sean

just about any 90-94 legacy axle will do. also either side is good for the other side.

they sell replacement boots for axles as well. you could also look in yellow pages and go to rebuilder and ask to buy the boot.

good hunting, Bepa.

boot replacement isn't a bad idea... i've done boots on my Nissan before. I assume its roughly the same process.

anyone else? can I use WRX rear axles?

No, the rear axles aren't swappable side-to-side.

They are slightly different lengths (the passenger side is longer, IIRC, though it has been a while).

You can use basically any axle that uses the same attachment type (since the diff has stubs, the new axle would have to be designed for it). I think the RS uses the same style axles......

I should still have both rear axles from mine (since I am running a WRX rear end with matching WRX axles). They are the original ones, though. Never gave me any problems, and the boots are still intact (though showing a bit of age).

Boot replacement isn't that hard, just messy.

just from what I used and checki9ng numbers for in stock items they have been the same numbers when you order them, have used them this way for many a car with no problems, but hey you could be right.

funny thing is even german cars use so of the same items. the manufactor can not use the same number as the original number, but sell overstock with a different number. that said teh q control may be to a higher standard then the overstck but yea tehy come from the same plant.

but I could be wrong.

be well, Bepa

got my first subie in 91, an SS with an automatic, they sucked way back then. became friends with the parts manger at the dealer. tim was a great guy and knew his stuff. it may be a few minutes from then but he schooled me well.

I just ordered a remanufactured one from parts america. and yes, they have different part #'s for L and R rear axle, but just one for the fronts... which is what I had read on here as well.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, the fronts are interchangeable.

The rears being different length caught me off guard, which is why I remember it so clearly.

~$70 with an $80 core charge. Haha. That just struck me as weird that the core charge was more than the axle itself.
