added stop leak to filled crankcase HELP

Post by prettyslowleg »

3 days ago i added a bottle of engine stopleak to a full crankcase. i didnt know i had to leave out a qt of oil to use this stuff and now my car has a bad idle and ruff acceleration . it sounds like its bubbling or something. i guess the pressure is all F'd up. yesterday i changed the oil out and ran the car, seems like the ruff idle went away couple hundred miles later. am i in big trouble? could i have damn seals or headgaskets or rob bearings? the engine makes a little knocking sound at idea but then goes away when diving.

that stop leak usually will thicken oil. Depending on the brand, it could thicken it way more than it should be for a particular engine.

Depending on how much you added, it's possible for the crank to mix the oil up to so speak and introduce air bubbles into it that can get sucked into the oil pump.

my advice would be never add that crap to your engine, fix your leaks!! This car is very easy to work on compared to most cars, chances are its your valve cover gaskets, which is a 40 minute job.
