Cams from Delta Cams

DELTA CAMS from Tacoma, WA has two performance camshafts for the
EJ22, one for auto use (#220)and one he recommends for use with the
engine in aircraft applications (#230).

Has anyone from the list tried these. If so what is the report??

Warren,

DO you have an address for Delta Cams? I'll go get the specs .. I live about 10 minutes from Tacoma and I was always wondering about cams for the '22..

Gary, Could you check and see if they will do a '96 n/a type cam with
their turbo grind? This cam has somewhat different timing as the '96
engine had roller follower rocker arms with mechanical adjusters and
the rollers contact the cams at a different angle and therefore have a
little different timing. I have a set of these arms and believe they
alone are good for 6hp and possibly higher rpm and now higher rpm is
going to be obtainable and valve float is going to be a limiting
factor.

Gary,

For Delta Cams http://www.deltacam.com/ 800-562-5500

Talk to Jerry, he's a very nice guy. A set of his #220 grind cams
arrived at my door yesterday, but I won't be able to have them
installed for a little while.

He said his #230 grind was higher performance but idle suffers. Its
used more by the airplane guys that mostly run their engines at
constant higher rpms.

No dyno tests on the 220 grind yet but Jerry estimates 15-20%
improvement in hp and torque with much better throttle response.
Jerry tells me that a previous installer of the 220 had no problem
with CA smog but did have to increase idle speed to about 1050 to get
smooth idle.

The 230 grind was dynoed by as part of a college project in PA and
recorde 25 hp increase and 25 lbs. ft of torque increase. Both
occurring at the same peaks as the stock engine, only higher.

A set of specs cam with the 220 cams if someone (not me) can tell
anything from them, I'm glad to post them.

David,

Like I said, Jerry's a very nice guy. I called him to inquire about
his cams after reading about them on another Group (Airsoob) and told
him about the SubaruVanagon (Yahoo) Group that I moderate and he
volunteered to send me a set (to try).

I understand the price is very reasonable. I will get a quote on
Monday.
