Does a shift linkage from sti 6mt work??
I did a search on this topic and found a few search results stating the some users have sti linkages on their cars. My question is are these sti shift linkages from 5mt cars or 6mt cars.

5 and 6 speed shifers are not interchangable.
A 5speed STI shifter from a GC/GF/GM car will work fine once the adapter on the transmission is changed.

why is that, are the rods different lengths? I understand that there is the cable for the shift lock on reverse, which is not a big deal. I just want to know the difference.PhyrraM wrote:5 and 6 speed shifers are not interchangable.

To be honest, I'm not sure why they won't interchange.
But considering that the 6MT is considerably bigger and longer (WRX guys need shorter auto driveshafts) your guess that the rod is shorter is most likely correct.

I haven't looked at any 6MT shifters up close out of the car, but yeah, from what I can tell, the whole assembly is shorter.
Try to find someone locally who's put a short-throw in their 02-07 WRX and get their old 5MT shifter assembly. They'll probably sell it to you dirt-cheap, if not give it to you.

Yeah, that what I have in my ABM legacy. I had the option of getting this for dirt cheap, so I thought I would ask.DerFahrer wrote: Try to find someone locally who's put a short-throw in their 02-07 WRX and get their old 5MT shifter assembly.
