after 5mt swap Q's

Post by altron23 »

so im trying to figure out the electrical aspect of the swap on my 90' legacy.

ive done the wire mods to get the car to start, run and let me take the key out, that was the easy part.

but my problem is i get a on and off MIL when driving. its for the idle control, cant remember the code right now.

so today at work i removed wire #20 off of plug b48 of the mpfi module. so now the computer no longer thinks i have a AT. but i still get the MIL, and it has always had a weird idle problem since the swap.

so if u got any ideas as what to do let me know, im ready Q's just let me know what else u need to know!

thanks
Garrett

Did you do everything mentioned in my swap write-up?

Did you snip that one wire that lights up the neutral shift indicator light in the dash. This is assuming you hooked up the neutral switch.

Beyond snipping the AT/MT identifier wire, the ECU should be fine. I'm assuing you have the 3-wire IAC valve?

have you reset the ECU? I'd do that, and try the d-check mode diagnostics.

Ive got the AT module removed, the wires at the plugs shorted to make it start, not shure what iac i have, the manual tranny ones are different if im not mistaken.

and yes i have cleared the memory with the select monitor 2.

the code comes on when ever im coasting in gear ether down a hill or letting of on the freeway. i think it doesn't know what to do when the throttle is closed but the rpms are still up with no idea where the auto is.

I can't say for sure, but that'd be the next logical step since the ECU does have it as an input.

Once you have all the wiring hooked up the way it is supposed to be, including neutral switch, etc. I'd start looking at all the pin/sensors and testing the continuity of the wires. Maybe something got pinched during the swap.

all fixed!

it was the neutral switch, like you said its a ground impute to the ecm on the circuit for the manual cars.

took all of 10min after work with the fsm, i had sniped the plugs for the tranny so i can use the factory plugs for the reverse switch and neutral switch, so if it needs to come out just unplug like stock!

now on to getting my cruse control back 8)
