Ok so you may or may not know ive been on the road for the last few weeks for work.

Finally got home last week, and pour angle was looking pretty disheveled. I figured it was past time to do something about it.

So i took it to the local open hand car wash. Got her a wash and vac. took her home. cleaned and amoralled the dash and tires. windexed all the windows in and out. Got road tar remover and cleaned all the road-tar and bug carcasses from her body.

So i get up this morning thinking to take some pictures of her to post showing some of the updates ive done and....

It looks like the neighborhood cats threw a fucking rave on my car. Muddy footprints everywhere, but mostly on the trunk. This isnt the first time either. It just seems to be my car and almost always after I wash it. They must be doing it at night because i have only ever ONCE found a cat on my car.

Anybody have any good cat repellant tricks? im seriously sick of this!

Paintball gun. Works on squirrels, I imagine cats would work, too. As a note, firing ~250 fps at a range of about 35 ft. will not kill a squirrel even with a direct hit. They dig the hell out of the yard and chase off the birds and even not hitting them, firing upon them a few times keeps them away for about a month. I haven't tried freezing the balls because my intention isn't to kill the things, but I'd bet that would make a cat think thrice before getting near your car again.

If this technology can be adapted to a subaru it would be perfect. This would work too, if you have a sunroof.

You'd risk dirtying your car, or worse, w/ a paintball gun. I'd recommend a blow-dart gun. It's what I use for the squirrels and crows at my home.

Not looking to kill the damn things... though I feel like it sometimes.

What about one of those air-soft guns? Never actually fired one so no clue how hard they hit. Potential for driving off cats without damaging the car?

I believe, though I've never used one, Airsoft fires with the same power as a paintball gun, but the balls are solid. Might be a better idea, though, as there won't be evidence left on the cat. A paintball miss shouldn't cause any damage to your car (I've seen an old van at a paintball range with paint all over it, but otherwise unmarked by the ball), but Airsoft might, I don't know. Any Airsoft guys out there? Depends on your range as well and what you use for propellant (assuming CO2 as it's cheapest, but the power drops as the tank is fired). Not sure if you've shot a paintball gun, but the farther the range, the exponentially worse the accuracy also. Maybe the rifled barrels help, I've never used one, but that's more money than you need to spend. Hitting squirrels is no easy feat, I'll tell you. A cat would be easier, but still not like firing a real gun and I would think you'd have to hit him at least once or twice to scare him enough to not come back.

Pepper spray paintballs would be the best. I guess just pepper spray itself would work, especially the gel stuff.

I can definitely say the environmentally safe, harmless, hippie-bullshit cat repellent they sell in pet stores does not remotely work (apple-something or other). As anybody but my sister and those PETA morons would suspect.

My grandmother had a nose like a bloodhound and was especially sensitive to stray cat spray and she used to leave mothballs around the house to keep them away. Not sure if it worked that well and I'm not sure why the cat stink bothered her, but the mothballs were fine with her. Anyway, that's another thing you could try.

Pepper spray paintballs would be the best.

Got to thinking about this at work today and suddenly had the mental image of a well pepper-sprayed cat running home to the comforting arms of its owner. "Awww whats the matter fluffy? come 'er my little *sniff* whats that sme AAHH! My eyes! WHAT THE HELL?"

I started laughing so hard I could hardly stand.... All my co-workers thought I had lost it and started ordering bullet proof vests.

Ok so i know quite a bit about airsoft. Essentially the projectile is a 6mm plastic bb varying from .12g to .25 and higher. Velocities vary with type of gun. There are 3 types of airsoft guns, Electric (using a motor to pull a piston back then release it propelling the bb with air.) Spring (the cheap "wal-mart" solution that is close to the concept of the electric gun except you are the motor) and Gas (using a propellant such as Co2 but the most common is called green gas which is essentially propane with a silicone lubricant in the can)

IMO the Ideal airsoft gun to deal with a cat problem would be the KJW MK1 gas powered sniper pistol thing.

You can get an adapter to use standard Colman style propane tanks to refill the gun which would be WAY cheaper than green gas.

As for missing and hitting your car i don't think there would be too much damage although with the power of this gun may leave a small dent in your car or even knick the paint up a bit. BUT the cat would definitely be scared and not do it again

Maybe a touch more than I wanted... definately not interested in marring the paint or dinging the car. what if I used a differant..... grade(?) of pellet. Do they have softer pellets?

Well i suppose you could go with a cheap biodegradable bb. some of those shatter on contact with hard objects. otherwise go wit a gun under 350 fps and it shouldn't damage anything. i could go test if you want me to

cats have claws, and claws scratch paint,, guarantee you that. The cat is probably trying to sharpen its claws on the surface of your car. I say trap it and take it to the shelter
