Knock Sensor?

I see the knock sensor on my 92 legacy has a huge crack in it. Probably why it's been setting the the CEL.

I see the Knock Sensor lists for $71 and is available from subaruparts.com for $50. I'm pretty big advocate for OEM sensors on a number of vehicles. However this being my winter vehicle, I've always had good products from Duralast. Is there anything super special about the stock knock sensor, that would really necessitate me buying it over the $30 Knock Sensor from Autozone?

When it comes to engine parts and electronics, I always go OEM. Maybe it is just peace of mind for me, but everything works and fits much better during installation.

There is nothing worse than replacing something less than a year or two later because you opted to take the cheaper route out.

I know what you mean. The previous winter beater was a 91 ranger, and the only sensor it was really picky about was the IAC valve that I replaced. The MAP, ICM, and DIST were all non OEM parts and they worked great. But then again like I mentioned my Gm B-body hates pretty much any sensor non OEM.

For the knock sensor you will want to go OEM. Subaru upgraded their design to provide a more crack resistant sensor. I have my doubts that the aftermarket sensors are the new design.

I believe the new sensor has a white wire and the old sensor had a grey wire. A quick search will answer that question for you as this has been covered a lot, search the engine forum as well.
