Poor Stock Knock Sensors

Post by Buffman »

Like I mentioned in another thread kept getting the CEL for the Knock Sensor. Peaked down at it yesterday and saw this:

Gray connector. 1527 JECS JAPAN A53-000 R00

Decided to go with the Duralast Replacement. 2yr warranty, $34.99 Can't complain. Appears maybe there was a pricing mistake as the same sensor in the AZ twenty minutes away is $49.99!

White Connector: 7Y19 UNISIA JECS JAPAN AA031 22066

NO CEL, running pretty good after changing plugs and wires too. Did a ground mod while I was at it on the KS too.

Good to hear it worked out. Still would have been better with OEM hopefully its all the same. The newer knock sensors have a updated connector and the knock sensor is of a different plastic. I had to pay $50 for mine.

The car repairing bank put the foot down on replacing some parts :) Have to pick and choose how I spend the $$$. Still got brakes left to do, coolant and trans flush, Exhaust and either a rear wheel bearing or CV shaft.

Otherwise day by day it's running better. Especially since I replaced a very very old fuel filter. Had Dark brown fuel coming out of it when I flushed it after i removed it.

AutoZones are independantly owned so part pricing Varies from store to store.

I found that little fact out when I purchased a tie rod for my AE86 for $40 & had to get the other one from another Autozone where the price was $19.99.

I bought 2 for 19.99 & got my $40 back from the original store - I told them about the price difference which they checked into but could do nothing about.....

That's crazy! Between Napa/Advanced Auto/ and Autozone they will all price match each other in my town.

yeah their policy (autozone's) is to price match also. Same with Advance, Not sure about Napa. It's weird some things are more at the one store, but some items (say starter and front brake rotors) are the same price. I know there's regional pricing on items. Ohh well. Just have to bring in the printout for some items and demand them for that :)

Yeah the older knock sensors were prone to crack. That's why the design was updated.

The subaru motors are infamous for the cracked knock sensors. Luckily it's about the easiest thing to replace.

And thank Gosh it doesn't cost $350 like the TPS sensor or the IAC valve.
