What offset will work?

Post by MacNews »

I have stock tires on my legacy (1992 Legacy sedan turbo) right now, 15"x6". I'm looking at getting some 17"x7' tires and was wondering if you guys knew what offset would work.

Last I checked I believe the offset on my wheels is 56mm.

I have 17x8's with a +48 offset, so anywhere from +50 to +53 with 17x7's should be good.

Tire size also makes a huge difference. I'll let the other guys chime in on that, though.

I did roll my rear fenders a little bit, but I think that's because I'm running 235/40/17 tires... That's wider than a stock STi tire.

Thanks guys..I will look for tires with offsets from 48-53.

Will a 40 offset work?

Tires don't have an offset, just rims.

And a +40 offset would be too low, I think.

sorta depends on tire size and how much work you want to put into it. I'm running a 16x7 +40 with pulled and rolled fenders, and it fits perfectly, no rubbing. this is with a 205 size tire.

For some reason, I think most people run way too conservative offsets with Subarus. I do come from the Nissan 240sx world of extreme flushness though :P so maybe I'm just jaded.

this was the best picture I had that shows how my wheels sit in the fenders of my legacy... sorry

for comparison, this is my old 240sx, notice the rear fender pull.

you guys should really try fitting lower offsets. makes the cars looks so much better than stock offsets. even on my M3 I run a slightly more aggressive than stock offset, and it makes the car look so much meaner with the wheel wells full!

I totally agree.

Here's a picture from the side. The back wheels are flush with my fenders.

And my front wheels actually stick out from the fenders a bit...
