What does the canister purge do?
I have a broken (plastic broke) solenoid on my Legacy Turbo '91
(between carbon canister and intake) - is this related??
Thanks,
Matt Reese

Canister Purge
The canister purge solenoid is part of the evaporative emissions
system. When the car is sitting cold, vapors are taken off the gas
tank and fed to the evaporative emission canister where they are
stored in charcoal. After the car has been running and reaches
operating temperature, the solenoid opens and the stored vapors are
dumped into the intake where they are burned off, thus freeing up the
canister to accept more gas vapor. If you have a faulty canister
purge solenoid, your car will probably have an ECU code 35 stored.
Not really sure what the detriments are to a bad canister purge
solenoid. It shouldn't really affect emissions since the test doesn't
include evaporative emissions.
