engine noise change

I'm curious if this is a common thing with suby's or what. I have a 91
legacy L. The noise the engine made used to be the nice sound that I
was used to from day one when we got the car at 100k miles. it now has
185k on it and, this winter, has started to make a noise that sounds
like... well something like a messed up fan, kind of an ambient
rattling noise. instead of the nice quiet relatively high pitched
sound I was used to it is now more clunky and rattly sounding. I have
heard a couple other subys that sound similar. what's the deal?
thanks sorry I couldn't be more descriptive, but it's really a hard to
describe noise
Dave

engine noise change

I have had this noise on two different wagons, 91 L and 93 Touring Wagon. In both cases it was the shield protecting the exhaust pipe below the engine near the fan etc. I fixed it on my Touring Wagon with some high temp liquid solder / epoxy.
