TD05-16G + '07 Forester XT IC install questions.
I've searched and searched more. I would gladly read any write up's or posts if anyone has links.
I'm putting both on a 91 SS.
I have the y-pipe for the IC.
Here's what I know:
1. Replace AC line with non-turbo line and insulate it against heat from the turbo.
2. Move ignitor.
3. Cut down or change clutch MC reservoir.
So what I'm looking for is what other components I'll need to complete the install. Will the factory y-pipe work with the straight outlet on the TD05 or will I need a more adjustable interface?
I'm just hoping to get the install done quickly. I have other vehicles to drive but they aren't as fun. For now it will just be stock boost - I just want to get the stuff in there and I want it clean and correct before I start really changing things.

don't try and use the stock y pipe, you need a silicone one you can extend and cut and play with.

Where do I get the silicone piping? I'm going to be using a TD04 and 02-03 WRX intercooler.

Yeah I wrench for a living and I have access to a full machine shop.
What I'm looking for is other folks experiences. What parts to buy, where to buy them, what works, what doesn't....etc.
Silicone y-pipe. Excellent - where is the best place to get a quality one of these?
Also - anyone have links to the recirc plates that fit the '07 IC. I got one off ebay but it seems to be for the older metal tanked IC.

You'll have to reroute pcv lines, the compressor outlet is in the way.
For the y pipe, i'm currently installing this one:

and so far it's almost a perfect fit with a td04.

Legacy turbo, desnorkled, intercooled, TD04, Borla catback, urethane mounts, wrx rear brakes.
silicone y pipe, look for one used on nasioc, or new from perrin,
if you have access to a machine shop and welder, make your own blow off valve adapter,
buy oem turbo manifold gaskets from the dealership, be prepared to break a stud or a nut, also get those from the dealership,
t bolt clamps proper size, anti seize, pre oil the turbo, grinder/cutting blade for stripped nuts or broken studs and for seperating your coolant feed/return pipes,
short radius rubber elbow with reducing muffler pipe for your intake coming off turbo inlet,
hose for coolant and your custom desighned valve cover vacuum lines,it's a good idea to replace all your vacuum lines while everything is apart.
and probably some stuff i'm forgetting. if everything goes well you could do it in about 5 hrs, but with all the custom work it could take closer to 10-12 hrs. i worked on it over a long weekend and i spent 6 hrs filing off a turbo nut that i stripped.

My time is worth much more than the $10 to $15 the correct adapter would cost. I can't even look at a piece of metal for that price. All my exhaust has been apart and anti-seized within the last 1000 miles. I custom-fit a 3", SS, turbo-back setup for an Imp so I won't have any issues there. Yeah - I'm hoping to get it done quickly. I know the pain of the broken exhaust studs - I had to remove two from the up-pipe. Best way is to weld an oversized nut to the stud and then use some penetrant and an impact turned down low. Eventually it breaks the grip of the rust and they turn out. Sometimes takes a couple tries. Can someone describe for me the relationship between the '07 Forester IC I have, and the WRX IC's? It's the plastic tank, narrow IC that fits better in the legacy turbo, but I'm having trouble figuring out which silicone y-pipe I need. They mostly seem to be for the older style IC where the ports are farther away (wider IC) and thus the y-pipe is longer. Can someone point me to one that is built for the shorter, new style IC I have? Am I looking for '08 and newer WRX parts? I'm confused......

i used regular vacuum line, seems to be holding fine but i would much rather have silicone.
i also used a td04 so i'm not quite sure as i have never looked at a td05 close enough
your a/c line should just be able to tuck under ur pitch stop
the silicone y pipe will need to be cut and extended a couple inches i'm pretty sure with a piece of pipe, i made my y pipe out of stainless

you should be okay, i have never done anything major or mostly custom untill i did this and i think i did a good job even though a few people doubted me even being able to do it. i also impressed alot of people but really it's not that hard and provided you have the tools it will be easy, good luck and pm me if you need anymore details.
