if you have ever wish you could open you hood a little higher try this

,

when you pull the gromet off the hood prop and pull it out of it's stock spot, you can put one end here...

....and the other end here.

now your hood is pointing straight up and it will give you alot more light and room!

Nice idea!

I almost got decapitated the other day when one of the cats jumped up onto the hood when it was open 90 deg, where I ususally keep it when working unless it's windy out... I had just come out from the engine bay and was straightening up when the hood came whistling past and I got a chestfull of scared cat

You can pull the motor by using the hood prop in that location. I usually only use that spot.

Every Subaru has this. The newer cars have a hole in the top of the strut tower for the prop rod.

I'm not sure newer Subaru's hoods open as much as older ones.

Where would the new mounting hole be? Would it be behind the the gray plastic button on the passenger strut tower in this pic? (see link)

I noticed the other day that my buddy's 97 outback has the bracket on the strut tower, but doesn't have the extra hole in the hood to allow the prop to fit in.

So we roped the hood to the roof rack, of course.

RJ93SS, it's fun discovering these little bonuses from subaru isn't it? They had a few cool ideas every now and then.

I was wondering what that was for. I have to admit, I had no idea.

I checked my 07, and there was nothing like that on the strut towers or anywhere in the vicinity. The hood does lift up just as far, though.

I just tried this today. Awesome I could have used this so many times! Comes out really easy to, just aim the rod straight up, and bend it towards you and it comes right out and put it in place as shown above. Then reinstall it the same way it came out

all subarus have it, but not anymore now that they went to hood struts.

05 up legacys u can just put the prop in the hood on a lower point to hold it up in a vertical position.

I recommend reading the owner's manual for these cars. It has a lot of little tid bits of information in it that otherwise you may not know, or may inadvertantly find out.

While we're on that subject, I think Subaru was very unique in it's day in how they did their engineering. They built in these little things that really can make life a lot easier. But I would say that the majority of the owners, and possibly even dealerships/mechanics don't know about. For the most part, people don't read the owner's manuals or manuals in general to find out the information, so these little nuggets of engineering "brilliance" go undiscovered.

Which I also believe is why Subaru has cheapend or "dumbed" down some of their engineering to fit the masses. It saves them money, and why do something if nobody is going to use it or recognize it.....

Anyway.....that is my complete off topic diversion.

i have read most of it, just not all, my favourite thing about this car as far as engineering ease for owners is gotta be the fuel pump trunk access, i'm begging for it to go on me. every other car i've owned except my 91 jimmy has needed fuel pump replacements and i've done fuel pumps on four or five of my buddies cars. i hope it goes!

As well as the fact that they are temperature controlled and don't stay running till your are a ice cube.
