Every turbo is about that expensive from Subaru. Even a VF7 from an XT Turbo is $1030.91.

Want to complain? How about a turbo from an FC RX7 Turbo II? $3914.57.

Turbos are precision devices. Not just any grease monkey can throw one together.

I wasn't looking to buy one. I already have one. I was just browsing through the parts manual I downloaded from this forum. I found the turbo part number and looked it up on 1stsubaruparts.com. It's crazy that it costs so much when you can buy one for about $40 used.

Keep in mind that used VF11s are a dime a dozen and about as desirable as a used toothbrush, and probably closer to needing a rebuild than not.

Yeah but still for that kind of money you could buy a huge turbo new.

Keep in mind that most people pay to have their cars worked on. That bigger turbo would require 3 times it's cost in supporting mods and tuning, where the VF11 drops right in, restores original performance, and has you back on the road the next day. How's that a bad deal for the dealer service crowd?
