Harbor Freight has rear diff drain socket!

Post by n2x4 »

Hey guys, I posted this up on another forum and wanted to share here:

I was at Harbor Freight on lunch today - they pretty much revamped the store. I'm pretty careful about what I buy from them but I've had decent success so far. Only tools I've had a problem with are the pliers and line wrenches. Anyways, of particular interest was this:

Harbor Freight Drain Plug Sockets!!!

Set includes: 8mm, 9mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm hex drive; 7mm, 8mm, 11mm, 13mm square drive

13mm square drive is what we need for the rear diff. I bought the set for $15. Can't wait to give it a try. Too bad it's not impact and it's only 3/8th but for the price and the fact that they're hard to find I had to pick them up.

Of other interested was Harbor freight gauges. They carry a boost gauge that shows vac. and there's an electric oil temp gauge too. Each for $20. Don't know that I'd trust my engine health to them but still neat!

Hmm I used a 1/2 drive extension just fine in my diff drain/fill plugs :)

Yeah, I thought they were specifically designed for a 1/2 drive.

I mean I agree a proper tool always does the job right, but in most of my experience most drain plugs for diffs either a 3/8" ratchet extension works or 1/2 :)
