1990 clutch adjustment

Post by foxgap »

Newbie here on the list, any help is fantastic. I did a search for this but all that came up was an article about how the clutch is so nice.
I just did head gaskets on the EJ22 in my Legacy all wheeler and while we were in there I put a clutch kit in also. I gather this is a cable clutch setup cause I can't find a master or a slave cylinder on the firewall. My problem is after everything is done now, when I leave off the clutch it takes up right off of the floor. Before we changed everything it had a real nice feel to it about 1/4 to 1/2 of the way of travel. How do I adjust this to the proper positioning?

Thanks all in advance, Mark

1990 Legacy EJ22 5 speed all wheel. 277,000 great miles.

There should be some form of adjustment nut to allow a little more tightness/slack in the cable. I'd suggest playing with this until you get the feel you like.

Unfortunately I haven't played with the cable clutches much so I can't be of more help.

Thanks Josh, I found the adjustment nut last night and got it just right for my foot. I thought it would be more complicated than what it was.
