Lifter noise

Post by cj91legss »

So i'm a little worried. i can hear a lifter kinda loud but it's only ticking when the car is cold (warming up) is this bad?

I can also hear kinda of a high pitched whining sound which i believe is coming from my intake that ha not done this before until yesterday, same for the lifter noise.

Have you checked your oil? Probably look into going for a oil change.

Yeah i checked the oil, it's all good as far as levels. i bought some more oil and a filter today. im thinking about adding some engine treatment like slick 50. i just found it odd that it's only doing it in the mornings.

Lifter noise is there for a reason. To make your life miserable. haha. Yeah, bad lifters simply drive you crazy. My cure to lifter noise was to simply turn off the car, then restart. 75% of the time that fixed it.

That's what I do with mine also. Shut of and restart fixes it about 95% of the time. The other 5% I just drive it and it eventually goes away

Ok so for the time being, oil change... and either way it's safe to drive for about a month or two until i can save up some money for a new set of heads?

Also due to the design of the boxxer moter, lifter noise is more apparent than a typical V engine. So a little bit is tolerable, but if you can hear it in your cabin thats too much and you must go from there.

Use SeaFoam or Marvel Mystery Oil in your next oil change. Usually those will free a sticky lifter and it's cheap.

If that doesn't work, you will just have to replace the lifters which isn't too bad.

I didn't go with either of those because i completely forgot those existed... my dad recommended some Slick 50 engine treatment so i just did an oil change and threw some of that in there. the lifter noise seems to have gone away tho.

Thanks for all your help guys. Really appreciate it.
