Chip for stock ECU!

The VF11 is outside of it's efficiency range past 11 psi. If you have enough cooling you can overcome this though.
The real problem is that it can't hold high pressures to redline. It tapers off above about 4500 RPM.

Mmmm, its tuned to match the compressor flow map, midrange peaks at 17psi then comes down to 13psi to keep reasonable turbo shaft speeds. If you look at the flow map, 17psi at midrange flow is within the 70% lines and well below the max speed line. The result is a lot more torque than before. This isn't a new way of tuning, the WRX crowd has been doing that for a long time now. Just the way to get the most out of the stock turbo. The intercooler can definitely handle this as we are able to run reasonable spark advance and keep the EGTs in check.
If it was constant 17psi to redline, then yes there would be a problem. Its the guys with MBC's that need to say 13 psi max because there is not really any control vs RPM.

I can't believe I haven't seen this until now!!
I'm definitely in for something user-tunable... because that would proably work with my build.
Great Work!

If you could actually get your VF11 to hold 17psi till redline you derserve a cookie... without an EWG or wiring the wastegate shut I'd be surprised to see it happen. (Not to mention it would be a bad idea)

Yeah I'd be interested in this as well. I would be using a EJ20 with TD04 and 06 WRX TMIC with 3" exhaust turbo back. I don't know what injectors the JDM EJ20 twin turbo motor has.

My ideal dream for this chip is for me to run a VF39 with sti injectors and a sweet AWIC setup. I think i would run over 20 psi to get the max out of the turbo. I guess i would need to swap the maf out to get that result. I guess aswell ill need a stage 3 style chip!
Keep up the great work! Im totally buying that chip as soon as you get a happy stage 3 out!!

Will the stage 2-up chip be preprogrammed for no cel for using the JECS maf? Or does the maf connector be rewired?

EDITED: I read the dyno sheets wrong, hp numbers corrected a little lower
Aaagh, well...good news and bad news...
I got 3 runs in, started off with the Stage 2 17 psi (peak) tune.
The first run didn't record because the dyno tach signal wire wasn't hooked up right.
2nd run was the good news, numbers were right on par with what we expected.
218 ft-lbs @ 3200rpm, EDIT: 174 hp @ 5000 rpm
3rd run was the bad news, seemed like major power loss. It really struggled getting redline and then when I let off the rpms dropped right past idle down to 0. At first we thought it could be a heat-soaked intercooler, but it wouldn't even start again, cranking sounded really funny. Checked the oil, it was 2.5L low!!
After filling it up it starts now but sounds like I munched a main bearing. Idle is ok but a little rough. Rev to 3000rpm and it goes clank clank. No smoke out the exhaust and AFR was dead on 11.4-11.6 for the last run. When I drove it off the dyno it seemed completely gutless. Anyway, the 3rd run was 207 ft-lbs @ 3200 rpm, EDIT: 149 hp @ 4500 rpm. Not bad considering it was seized enough to not start afterwards I guess.
Not sure what to do now, $5 of oil and I would be keeping up with stock WRX's right now. Should have checked it first, I'm an idiot. But I thought it was ok since the oil light should have come on right? Last time I checked the oil was a few months ago.

Never rely on oil lights. With other cars, I've found that when you see them, it's too late. Good oil pressure gauges are underrated. Was it low to begin with or did something let go on the dyno? When I melted an exhaust valve, I burnt a shit load of oil, but didn't see any sign of it in the exhaust.

I'm pretty sure it was already low, there's a small oil leak from the cam seal on the back of the passenger side head. I changed the gasket but I should have also done the two smaller ones on that housing.
Last time I filled the oil I checked it again after a month and there was no noticeable drop. That was in August, hadn't checked it since. I guess the idiot light made an idiot out of me. Doh. No smoke out the exhaust or puddles anywhere that would indicate a piston let go. Also the wideband still read perfectly so combustion was good. I was able to drive off the dyno once we filled the oil back up.
I'm heading out of town next week so I don't know if I'll have time for a closer look until I get back. Its probably a good idea to stop thinking about this for a while anyway.

man that really blows! you got some nice numbers though i'm impressed you could get them from the stock turbo. 220 torque at the wheels thats like 260 crank torque! and about 210 crank horse (if its true that theres a 20% loss of power through the drivetrain).
so good job! i'm excited to see what you'll be able to do with a TD-04.
i've got some 480cc injectors and a jecs maf on the way so if you could incorporate those into your plans that would make my life easier.
and i know the stage 2 chip is meant for the stock turbo but since the TD-04 doesnt flow that much more do you think it could be used with it?
keep up the good work, its nice to see someone paying so much attention to a "minority".

The product looks good and I'm really interested about it but without any dyno sheets...

We know about the stage 2 dyno experience but did you dyno test the stage 1 chip?

Just got back from my vacation, thought about what to do with the engine. I think I'm going to put in forged pistons, STI rods and race bearings. I want to eventually put on EJ25D heads + VF22 and swap the engine into a GC chassis so I can have my own 22b-ish replica.
OK, here's the data files. I only have a graph printout of the 2nd dyno sheet, but I will still get it scanned in soon. I'm past stock boost level below 2400RPM! The dyno boost sensor wasn't hooked up for the 1st run.

Didn't do any dyno runs for Stage 1, low oil level killed the engine before I could. No more testing for me for quite a while.
The TD04 will be a variant of the Stage 2 chip, it needs a different boost map. There's some guys around here who have the same setup and are willing to test.
