sticky caliper overhaul

Yea so I like my brakes.....Just have a sticky one!
I ve seen overhaul Kits for about $100, Each wheel I assume???
This is a question for an experienced proffessional-

To effectively overhaul the calipers do I just need new piston seals, or do I need new pistons aswell?
And yes I plan on doing all 4.

Shed some light please someone, I don't want to spend more than a hundred bucks on my existing Brakes. Thanks

Assuming the piston is not scored you can reuse the pistons. A rebuild kit should not cost you $100. The kit I got from subaru for the WRX front calipers was not much at all $10-$20.

EDIT: are you sure it's the caliper piston that is sticking, and not the slides? Make sure the slide bushings are CLEAN, no burrs or crud, and that those babies are lubed up a lot (use good high-temp grease made for disc brakes). Make sure there isn't caked grime inside the rubber boots for the slides/bolts. anyways, could be a quick fix that will get you down the road for a while until you *really* need caliper work.

yeah that is way too much for a caliper overhaul kit, unless maybe it was for all 4 sets (doubtful).

I dunno what auto parts stores you have up there, but down here for instance at Advance you can get remanufactured calipers for $50-80 USD, and you can get loaded calipers for $80-120 (reman calipers that come with pads).

Sure would be a lot less work to just R&R the calipers, rather than spend the time overhauling old calipers yourself. Bolt them on, bleed the system, drive away.

You could probably get a used working caliper from a member who's upgraded for real cheap as well. But like it has been said, new calipers don't cost that much.

last weekend I put in new seals and boots, and yea i had to clean the "rim" where the boots fasten to the caliper. I think it cost me about $60 for all 4 wheels. By Far the hardest part about it is putting on new boots......There must be a trick to it.......
If I had to do it again I would push the piston all the way in. Then install the inner ring of the boot on the Piston, THEN try getting the outside of the boot fastened down. I was doing it the oppisite way and it was difficult at best.
On the last one I hypothisized that it might be the way to go.

Yeah, I had a stick piston slide, took me 2 wrenches and a hammer to get it unstuck. Once the boot and slide came out about 2 ounces of rust came out with it.

It's a midwestern car so that stuff is possible. A rebuild kit is only about $45 less than a new caliper. I'll probably never rebuild a caliper again unless I'm stuck on the side of the road.

Rust, U should see my Unibody. Thank god the engine is aluminum.
mm that reminds me? in Canada or ontario at least I heard that you don't have to E-test/AirCare ac Classic Car?
Can anyone confirm or Deny or have more info?
