wrx 5 speed swap on auto 91 ss

im looking at buying a 91 ss with 160k on her.. bone stock except for the wrx5 speed, but i was told the speedo is not working.. so woundering if anyone knows anything about this.

The one on craiglist? I think you need to remove the part from the original transmission the speedo cable attaches to and put it in place of where the VSS is. Unless he did that and it did not work?

Not sure what is involved. I am thinking the piece just unscrews and you screw in the speedocable piece instead, then hookup your speedocable.

Yep, that's what you do.

It's possible he didn't get it in all the way. There's a small notch in the hole that the flat end of the speedo cable fits into. If it's not in the notch, it's not going to get turned. I've done a WRX drivetrain swap into my Legacy and the speedo works fine.

Or maybe he didn't try at all?

that could be, im not sure. i just want to know because im trading my bike straight across and well currently my bikes worth more but i cant sell it no one will buy this time of the year and well i need a reliable sorce of transportation. so im just tryiing to make sure this is a wise trade on all sides.
