Chip for stock ECU!
Moderators: Helpinators, Moderators
Thats flippen sweet! I love graphs! I cant wait untill i can get a chip that runs a VF39 with sti injectors! Thats all i need is that chip and i can finally use them parts!
Other than that. 22b would be smurf. BSOD2600 nice graphs!
And having over stock boost under 2400 does not hurt at all!!

The dyno operator said the spikes are probably from the tach pickup wire. It was just a pin pushed into the back of the coil connector and didn't really seem like a solid connection.
The Revtronix website was updated today with the Stage 2 chip, so you can buy it now.
Here's the 2nd dyno sheet, I had to take a picture with my camera. The scanner is bugging out on me right now. The boost and AFR are really overscaled on the graph so they look more wavy than usual.

I've been playing with my Impreza for the past couple of months & have not been on here lately & saw this for the first time today.
Nice to see this is available.
I'm surprised folks did not realize the potential a boost spike/taper of a small turbo had on low end power.
I was able to spike my 90* TD04 to 19psi tapering down to 14-15psi @ mid-high RPMs on the EJ20G using Meth Injection - tires would spin when boost hit!
Without meth I'd just run a steady & slow 14 psi - which ran a 14.59 @ 96.41 MPH on grandma 700rpm no brake-torque 2.4 second 60' launches (a fat guy could take off better than that!) as stated in my sig - no wheelspin :(
You guys should make a EJ20G motor (90* inlet TD05-16G, 440cc injectors, Jecs MAF) chip for SS ECUs, for the Lazy guys like myself who slap a EJ20G in their SS & run it off the Stock SS ECU / sensors.
? boost level on the chip but I run 15-18psi with meth on my car with the TD0516-G /EJ20G - NO TAPER!
I'd buy that chip in a hot second!
A Meth chip would be nice for everyone as well - timing & boost could be increased with meth - you;d just have to spec the pump PSI (150psi pumps are the most common) & Nozzle size.
Again NICE to see someone doing something simple & affordable to increase the performance of these cars, make me a EJ20G chip & I'll buy it in a heartbeat!

I am extremely interested in this and have been followings the thread from inception.
I do have a couple of questions.
Are they only doing tuning on cars that have the appropriate mods, i.e. they dyno tune a car with the TD04 and 440cc/min injectors before releasing the chip or are they applying basic tuning phlisophies and then running with it? Anybody else other than you have their chips running in the car?
The question of upgrading from Stage 2 to Stage 3 or changing parameters of the Stage 2 to another another Stage 2 hasn't really been answered yet. If I were to buy the chip for the VF-11 and stock injectors and then upgrade to the TD04 and 440's, what would it cost to have my chip reprogrammed for the new setup?
I'm getting rid of the 4eat this winter, hopefully for a 6mt if funds allow, and at that point I will be ready to start throwing some torque and power at the system. However, depending on answers to the above questions, I may be interested in putting the chip in with the VF-11 now and seeing how it does.
You also made mention of going up to their facilities for a custom tune. Can this be done with one of their plug/play chips, i.e. they take the stage 1/2 chip and just put a custom map specific to my car on it? If so, how much would this run? This also goes back to the dyno question.
I still need to get a passport, but Vancouver isn't that far from N. Idaho.
Thanks for the updates and helping getting this going. I definately see this as a viable option and path. I'm a ways away from standalone yet and this may provide the solution I need for when I get to that point

Yup, all tuning is done on cars with the exact mods. No guessing here. That's why it will take more time to eventually get chips ready for each turbo.
For upgrade cost, I'll have to talk to the other guys. I can say for sure that you won't end up paying the whole cost again.
You can definitely get a custom tune programmed on a plug-in chip, that's one of Revtronix's main services. Cost depends on how much you need done, I would e-mail them with your info to find out.
A guy in Texas bought a Stage 2 chip last week before the website was even updated, now he wants Stage 3! But he only registered on this board a few days ago, not sure if that counts.

I've just emailed them to ask about the upgrade fees and here's the answer:
Thanks for contacting Revtronix! The TD04 version of the Stage 2 chip is not ready yet. The current estimate is that it will be ready in January.
Upgrades will cost the difference of the product (Stage 1 to Stage 2 is $20), plus a reprogramming fee of $50. So for you, the upgrade cost is $50 only because you will be staying with the Stage 2 chip.
If you have any more questions let me know.
Cheers,
Mike Sisson

My current setup is: top mount intercooler, TD04, 2.5'' downpipe and exhaust,I also have a JECS mass air flow available but for now I still have to stock injectors. So, I would like to know how much it would cost to upgrade the chip later when I will be getting some 440cc or 550cc injectors?

Please pass on this thought to Revtronix if they're concerned with out relentless questioning - we're not trying to naysayers or question the chip, we're just really involved in our cars and want to know everything we possibly can about a new item like this chip. It holds a lot of potential to be a huge leap forward for the community, but done wrong it'll eat our precious motors

I have double EGT's on my OBS-t (single port PII 2.2e motor 1 probe on each bank of cyls) both located about 3-4" from the port & I could keep EGT's @ a Rock steady 1300* on WOT pulls from 1st to 5th until it hits the speed limiter (which is now eliminated via a voltage clamp!).
I have 1 EGT on the SS @ the base of the up-pipe so EGT's are about 70-100* cooler than the OBS-t due to the increased distance from the port.
Both cars are alky injected which really stabilized EGT's on the OBS-t once you hit 4-5th gears on long pulls, it used to creep toward 1500* on long pulls w/o alky @ which point I'd just let off & let the egts cool down.
I know WRX guys hit the 1450* range, but 1610*sounds too hot.
I'm happy to see that this is on the market, but am wondering if those EGT's are Tooo high..

The EGT is near the outlet of the passenger side manifold. Stock, I was still reading 800+C, so its not a big jump.
It's more for making sure the turbo isn't getting too much heat. Actually, higher EGT's mean less heat is going into the pistons. So there's a balance between EGT's and spark timing.
Here's a good post on NASIOC about EGT's: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=1589638

I'm a ghetto tinkerer so the conservative EGT's I run are my little buffer to try to keep the motor from going BOOM!
BUT 1610* still sounds a bit high to me!
800*C is about 1472*F which is alot cooler than 1610*F.
I contacted Revtronix & they said they can copy the stock EJ20G parameters (440cc injectors, TD05-16G, JECS MAF, stock fuel & timing maps) onto a chip for the SS which means with this chip a properly running EJ20G swap is possible with NO wiring!

I'm confident that the EGT's are fine. I've been abusing the engine since August like at these temps. Spark plugs look fine and there's no knock. Instead I damaged it from not enough oil. Doh! The engine is coming apart soon so I'll know how the pistons look too.
High EGT's aren't what makes the engine go boom, it's knock that does it. Less spark timing is actually easier on the engine, but will result in high EGT's. Too high EGT's will make the turbo unhappy (turbine blade creep), I've seen somewhere that IHI turbos are rated for 950 C (1742 F). The exhaust cools down a few hundred deg F by the time its past the up-pipe so even if I measured 950C at the probe its well within the safe range for the turbo.
The post I linked has some good info from other tuners. One is running 1850 F continously while road racing. Even the Cobb stuff hits 1600 F regularly.

It is what was needed to KNOW how even EGT's were between the CYL banks.
Some of my buddys have 5 pyrometer probes on a 4cyl motor!
4 to data-log EGT's on each cyl via a standalone ECU + the last for a gauge in the car for a total of 5 probes....
Others do not even know what a pyrometer is....

My pops drives my Legacy now so keeping it simple is nice!
They already have the Z4 260PS ECU program ready to burn, but I'm trying to get a STI Ra ECU (SC = code) 275ps to load up as the 2nd map as both these cars come with a 16G, 440cc injectors, the same Jecs MAF stock.
I had a STi RA ECU, but got an offer I could not refuse & sold it :(
They are gonna try to get a a local with a JDM WRX EJ20G on the dyno to get a "tuned" program for this motor as well - more aggressive boost/timing maps.
SO
Hopefully we should have a EJ20G chip for the ej22t ECU soon.
