a question
so i did alot of research on here before i started posting. i have a 93 legacy l wagon, awd automatic. i got the car and have driven it 3k miles in the last 2 months. all of a sudden out of no where it runs like garbage intermittently. it feels like its not getting fuel the engine just bogs down and stalls most the time. i did spark plugs (the ones specified in the announcements section.) i also did the check engine light and it came up with a camshaft sensor code. i replaced the sensor with one from a friend and it still does the same thing. should i start doing voltage drop tests and all that and see if i can find an issue in the wiring? its got a new fuel filter too. just looking for any tips or anything. thanks!

It probably skipped a tooth or two on the timing belt then.

I'd suspect MAF as well.

Since the problem, as you say, is intermittant, it's probably not your timing belt. If your timing belt had skipped teeth, the car would probably run crappy all the time instead of intermittantly. I'd suggest checking any other sensors that affect the timing, like the coolant temp sensor or MAF. Also, like these other guys said already, clean your MAF sensor. A lot of people say to use intake cleaner to clean the MAF wires. But there is a spray designed specifically for cleaning MAFs, I would reccommend this over regular intake cleaner. It only costs a little more, and it's available at pretty much any parts store.

word i'll try all of this tonight i'll have a bay in the shop i work at to tinker on this thing. i've come to really like these bad boys i'm trying to find a 5 spd wagon instead of this to dump some money into. i came from a vw to this so i'm still learing the tricks to the subarus. i've driven a stage 2 wrx that was a blast and i'd love to make a legacy wagon drive like that.

ok guys after spending 3 hours diagnosing this thing i'm still at a stand still. i disconnected the cam sensor and tested resistance. it tested ok. i did the blinking light and got he following
cam shaft position sensor
crank position sensor abnormal voltage
starter switch abnormal voltage
and an evap code.
the car ran fine for a day then went back to the normal.
last night i was driving and the car bogged down to about 1k and i gave it more gas and it just stayed there. i looked at the MAf and it was clean. i gutted my air box does anyone think that could be messing with the MAF?
