Covnerting Clutch Style

Post by diego0decastro »

So, i've been searching on here and many other sites to find out what i need to replace my tranny on my 91 t-leg (2nd gears acts like neutral). I've come to the conclusion that it would be cheaper to get subaru 3.9FD tranny and switch over the clucth styles. Which brings me to my question, What parts do i need to get the switch over from pull to push? I've looked everywhere and i can't find the answer. I'm hoping that someone on here that has the done the switch will chime but if not, if anyone can point me in the right direction, it will be greatly aprciated. I well continue to search to see if something turns up, but in the meanwhile thanks

So i'm guessing that the flywheel is a match for the new trans or would a NA flywheel work

I believe all the flywheels from an EJ motor series 5mt are interchangable. The 6mt uses a different flywheel though.

I also believe you can swith the push/pull style on any tranny. Doug Vincet figured this out and has a post floating on the BBS. There's a boss that he had to tap and was then able to move the throwout arm.

You will need need a new TOB, not sure about the slave cylinders and such.

I think this information is correct and trust it will be corrected if it's not :).

FWIW, there's been other guys on here that have put NA trannies in their SS so you're not the first and it is a doable item.

You would need to swap the pedal box to a cable style if you want to go that route. If by FD you mean front wheel drive, I'd say stay away, because your car is sooooo set up for AWD that going back properly would mean a ton of work. Find an awd tranny and go to a cable clutch if you have to.
