Do codes stay in the ECU?

Hey guys, today was stopped, and noticed the check engine light came on, engine started bogging and shaking and extremly low idle. Put er in neutral, reved up ok, kept doing it, then the check engine light shut off, and idle went back to normal and everything was fine. Any idea's what happened and can I still read the code tomorrow? Curious if this is a injector issue.

I believe the last several codes are stored until the ECU is reset or more codes come in...

The codes stay until you have done some number of restarts, often about forty restarts. Some codes are the result of a fault and not the fault themselves. For instance, if there is a problem with your temperaturs gauge it might make the motor run rich thinking it was cold and the richness might make the o2 sensor unable to correct the mixture enough so that you get a o2 sensor code as well as the temp sensor code. There are hundreds of different combinations of faults and resulting codes so they need to be interperated to ensure you are fixing the problem and not changing things that are the victum not the cause of the problem. Get the codes out and post them here and we will interperate them for you.

Also, the codes are not wiped when new ones come in, they accumulate. We fix the first problem, which is normaly the one with the lowest number, then we clear the codes and go for a drive and then we recheck for trouble codes and fix the next lowest numbered one and repeat the process till there are no codes being logged.
