Oil temp gauge, anybody has it?

Oil temperature is critical for turbocharged engine, just wondering
who has an oil temp gauge install here. How did it turn out?

Turbo engine runs hotter than NA engine, that's also why the radiator
and cooling passages are more robust in the Turbo Legacy. In summer
time driving, it's nice if you know how hot the oil and water temp
are before you keep pushing the car.

OK. I understand that. But why does it matter? What is an "ideal" oil temperature? I have never been able to find one... Oil pressure, I can see, but not oil temp.

my oil temp gauge seems to be located right in the dash board of my 1992 Turbo Legacy. It stays at a Mid level between Hot and Cold even when I run my car hard. Cool shit cause it has 333,000km on the original engine. critical fuck critical! What is critical is a boost gauge and I think it is stupid that one doesn't come stock!

Ummm.....I'm assuming this is a north american turbo legacy. There was no stock oil temp gauge. As jason pointed out....it's most likely the engine temp gauge you are referring to.....also.....that gauge should be on the left......not the right.....unless they just changed stuff for your car......

don't understand why people responded in such a way that my question
was crazy. Have they thought about why there are cars equipped with
engine oil cooler and there is synthetic oil to prevent thermal
breakdown?

With an oil temp gauge, you know exactly when to stop pushing your
engine, especially during summer time. Engine temp gauge that came
with the car doesn't really give you an idea of how hot the oil is.
When oil is too hot, the viscosity breaks down, losing its
effectiveness of lubricating the engine. Do some research on high
end or other Turbocharged cars, they are likely to have an engine oil
cooler or an oil temp gauge. If you still don't get it then I'm

Ok here's the deal, save yourself some flow on an Oil Temp gauge and go out and spend a little extra on some SYNTHETIC MOTOR OIL, I threw some Mobil 1 they say it is Try-synthetic. Ohh, wow... Look at that... now I don't have to worry about the viscosity factor... I need and intercooler cause my Oil Cooler is crap!

OK.. you still haven't answered my question.. What is an ideal oil temperature? The purpose of synthetic oils is to prevent exactly what you state below. Do some research on synthetic oil. If you still don't understand, well, you shouldn't have a turbo car. I sincerely hope you are not putting dino oil in there.

If you think Synthetic oil is magic and you don't need an oil temp
gauge, then don't reply anymore. Do you assume I don't use synthetic
oil and therefore want a gauge? Ideal temp varies across different
engine type, perhaps 100C--120C. If I know what the oil temp
normally is when running then I will consider that ideal.
With an oil temp gauge then I can prevent myself from revving the
motor when temp of oil gets too high.
