PLEASE HELP!!!!Bad suspension Noise....

Post by pascooby »

So i just bought a 93 legacy fwd non turbo 5 speed..so a Legacy L
when i downshift to slow down or hit the gas quickly and left off there is a horendus and loud banging sound for a few seconds then it goes away. sound like its coming from the RF.

I jacked each side off the ground and did a shake down test on each wheel everything seems to be pretty stiff..No noticable bad movement from anything. I was going to start with tie rod ends then go from there...Any sujestions maybe im missing something loose. I can grab the tie rods end and can move them around pretty eaisly but a bad tie rod end making that bad of a noise doesent make sense to me. The ball joints seem ok..Please help.
no horrible noise while speeding up or at speed just when down shifting and instant on the throttle off the throttle.HELP

if you open the hood and rev it up there really isent a noticeably bad movent of the motor at all and no bad noises when you do it.. if you just pin the throttle and dont let off for a while there is no bad noise. just when u pin it and let off of it instantly thats when the loud noise happens

Can you create this sound with the car sitting still in the driveway, or do you have to be driving? If it's a bad mount, it shows up under a load.

Can the motor mounts be replace with the motor in pretty easily? Do I just need to elevate the motor a slight bit?

Yes, I've done it. It's tight. Having a good selection of 14mm sockets, open and box end wrenches will help getting in there.

Yes, you can do it in-car, undo the crossmember nuts, jack the engine and remove the 3 large mount bolts.
Easier if the exhaust is unbolted from the heads...
