Leaking coolant

Post by Nissan-Subaru »

I found a leak today. On the driver side of the engine
is this black box thing that’s leaking radiator fluid.
What’s this thing called? I think JC sports used to
make a metal one. Do I have any other choice besides
the OE one? Anyone have a part # can anyone give me an
idea on price? Also Is there anyway I can stop the
leak for a little longer?

Yeah, I believe this is your oil reservoir. One of the nipples on my
broke on a cold day under the hood so I had to repair it with a new
nipple(fossat nossle) and tacked it with some JB Weld. Locate the leak
and putty it up with some JB Weld or like RV/Marine Silicone. It will
hold for a little bit. You may need to drain and remove the oil
reservoir, also a good time to really flush it out with a good flow of
water(maybe some soap???), as I did.

see ya,

Leaking coolant

John Nissan-Subaru <nissans14@yahoo.com> has broken his coolant expansion tank

John you should have known better than to get too close to that tank. Body heat causes it to come apart usually where the fittings for the coolant lines enter the tank. JB weld held mine together for a couple of years. I built up the epoxy around the fittings just hoping for a workable seal, but it eventually started leaking again. I scored an Aluminum one from the last batch made by JC Sports. I would send off to MRT in Australia for their Aluminum version before I would fork out a couple of hundred for another stock one.
